View Full Version : bellybutton piercing advise!

I know some of you have their bellybutton pierced and I was wondering if you could give me some advise. I've been thinking it over for some weeks now, and I still have some questions. Like,
how long did it take to heal?
And what where you advised not to do, like swimming or stuff like that?
And what did you do to keep it clean, and not infected?
I've already been searching info on the net, but I also want to hear your own experiences. Can you help me?

Well I'm ya woman 10eke!
Ok, if you take real good care of the piercing it won't get an infection. I wouldn't advise to go swimming for a while, and if you do, then put a waterproof covering over it. I went on holiday shortly after having mine done and went swimming and mine went a bit gross! I'm not saying it was because I went swimming, cos i'm not entirely sure, but personally, I would avoid it.
As far as I remember, it didn't take long to heal. Most piercing places will give you special clensing solution to use on it to ensure a quick healing. I also used hot salt water on mine.
You hear a lot about belly button piercings going septic, but as long as you look after it well, it shouldn't be a problem. They should go through all of this with you at the piercing studio.
Hope I was of some help! :) xx

my friend had it done and you have to be very careful! the 'proffesionals' that did her's did it wrong!!! and she was in lots of pain and couldn't clean it properly becuase of the pain. i think you should do reserch on how the actually pierce it and then you will have confidence when you go to get yours done :) plus.. if you think they are doing it wrong you'll know!

Boy there is alot to look for when getting your belly button peirced isn't there? Well it is good to look into everything before you do it.

bexi3
04-23-2004, 06:08 AM
I'm not sure what mine was made from. But if you go somewhere with a good reputation they should tell you all the advise you need, and use the materials they think best. Although it's good to look into these things, don't worry too much about it! You'll be fine I'm sure! xx

BBooper
04-23-2004, 01:38 PM
i think stainless steel is a good one and gold or gold plated ;) i know when i got my ears peirced the second time the woman reckoned the gold one because they have less chance of causing infection where as others might.

I would think it would be good to go with real silver or real gold?:)

10eke
04-25-2004, 06:29 PM
I don't think my skin is that difficult. I've never had prblems with my ear piercings. But I guess the man who does the piercing knows best! BTW, what is sterling silver?

bexi3
04-26-2004, 05:04 AM
Sterling silver is a very good quality of silver which will last forever if you take care of it. It's proper silver unlike these silver plated pieces of jewellery you get. It't not likely to go green! haha! x

10eke
04-26-2004, 05:14 AM
Can you use it for the piercing, I mean, when they pierce it? Or is that kind of silver no good?

Bikerbettyboop
04-26-2004, 01:16 PM
I can't wear any kind of silver.... guess I have weird skin... it has to be gold.

BBooper
04-26-2004, 01:25 PM
lol, some peoples skin react differently. i think you should try different types of metals in your ears first before you get your belly button done. that way if you reat with one type you know not to use it any more :)

Question.
What's driving you to getting a piercing?
Is there any particular reason you want it? Does your boyfriend have any piercings?

10eke
05-01-2004, 07:45 PM
no, he's only had his ear pierced, but he has taken it out again.
It's just because I think it's sexy. I've found it sexy for many years, and now I'm ready to get one.

bexi3
05-04-2004, 05:07 AM
10eke, I don't think you'll need to squeeze your boyfriends hand when you get it done because it really doesn't hurt. It's a little uncomfortable when they clamp the skin, but the actual piercing doesn't hurt atall. They used this cold spray on me, which made the skin around my belly button freeze for a few seconds. Don't worry, it'll be fine, and it's over in a matter of seconds! The result is sexy, you're right! I love my piercing - especially at the moment, cos I have a BB stud in! :) xx

10eke
05-04-2004, 05:27 AM
I don't know how he's gonna do it. I made the first step saturday. I've gone to the piercer to ask him some questions. He's called 'tattoo'dennis, and I expected a really big rough man, but he's not so bad! So I'm sure where I'm gonna get pierced now!

Hi all.........Just tossing in my two cents.
I had my belly button done 3 years ago. Mine took over a year to actually heal completely. Meaning, I could still feel pain in it but not every day. Also, I am short wasted so it rubs against my waistband and hurts some days..............I have to wear things that don't rub up on it. But all in all...........I LOVE IT....Even though it was a pain and took awhile to heal, I would do it again. I wear betty in my belly most days....HA!:D

Have fun but make sure you go to a reputable place......

10eke

I always wear trousers with a low waist, you know, the kind that's on the hip. So I won't have a lot of problems with that I guess...

I'll have to loose some more weight, or my belly will hang over the waist band of the trousers! ;) No just kidding... but a flatter belly would be nice!

bexi3
05-06-2004, 05:48 AM
Well, a bit of advise 10eke........apparently it's a lot easier to pierce your belly button when there's a bit of belly there! haha! My friend had hers done and her stomach is flat as anything, and he had a real problem doing it, but because I had a bit more belly than her, he did mine realy quickley! So don't lose too much weight 10eke! :) xx

well boopsie and bbooper yes those things can happen, but those are very rare cases. Mine didn't hurt at all they put this stuff on it to numb it and really the only thing is the clamp and thats just unconfortable, yes it does swell but to help with that you keep ice in ur mouth as much as you can and they should start by putting a long one in to keep your tongue from swellin over the stud then, once the swellin goes down you can down size it, well the piercer will do that. i had a great guy for mine and he told me not to play with it and i'll be fine and actually i was able to have mine down sized the next day because i didn't play with it and took care of it as far as keeping ice on it and take aleve for the pain. You can swallow it if your not careful, my advice would be to wear plastic balls (so your teeth don't break) and to make sure they are screwed on tight. but the person who does it for you should tell you all this really, and i was really an acception to the rule usuall they tell you it takes 2wks before you can down size but just leavin it alone for the first day or two you may be lucky like me and can down size quickly. sorry for the long post i hope this all helps.

just if you do decide to get it PLEASE go to someone who knows what they are doin, i had a REALLY GREAT guy for mine.

boopsie plz tell my husband that, he thinks i'm to old for it. and that moms shouldn't get those...lol

Good idea 10eke. One day after you've done other things (important) that you NEED to do...HEY! Go out and get you a piercing/tattoo. Put one in a place that could possibly be a little less painful. Belly button, nipples, nose...those are some really sensitive places.

Well Done! It is normal for it to have some swelling, just keep applying the oitment (they should have given you some). As long as it doesn't continue for too long ie many weeks - see GP if does. Each person reacts differently. Keep it clean to try and avoid infection and all should be hunkydory.

Ouch!! Yeah! It'll take a few weeks and it'll level out. Take really good care of it.

well, you do feel it, but I haven't screamed and I haven't cried, it's the thought of the needle going in my skin that freaked me out that moment, but it was ok...

I hate to introduce a serious note here.

My wife is an expert on hepatitis and has given talks and published papers on the disease.

Approximately 50% of the current world population have, or have had, hepatitis. In Africa and parts of Asia it's almost 100%.

Hep A is like influenza. It seldom kills but is very unpleasant.
Hep B can kill.
Hep C doesn't kill, but it can become chronic and reduce the body's resistance to other infections. In this way it's similar to the AIDS virus.
Hep D kills.

A major source of hepatitis infection in the developed world is the increasing fashion for tatoos and body piercing. It takes only the most microscopic speck of infected blood on an unsterlised needle to transmit the virus. Hep C is approximately a million times more infectious than AIDS!

So if you must get tatooed or body pierced, ensure you go to a reputable, clean establishment where everything is thorougly sterile. Otherwise you're taking a terrible risk.

Hep C can lead to Cirrhosis (Liver)

The Moocher

Hep C can lead to Cirrhosis (Liver)

Also liver cancer.

Over 90% of cases become chronic, which means you can have it for the rest of your life.

There are drugs that can alleviate it but, unless someone has information I'm unaware of, there's no vaccine and no cure.

I could go on and on, but I'd only depress everybody.

If you do decide on body piercing or tattooing go to a well-established, reputable establishment where the needles are sterile, and preferably single-use.

Avoid back-street parlours like the plague - and I mean tthat literally!
