Hi everyone. I am looking for directions on how to make a Betty Boop cake for my niece's birthday coming up in March. Can anyone provide any help? I've been looking for a moulded cake pan, but they don't seem to make one anywhere.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

i saw a BB cake in a book once. it was just a normail cakes with a marzipan betty on the top! :) My pen pal also had a cake with BB on it, she sent me a pic of it! D it was just one of the image-icing ones. maybe there is somewhere near you that specializes in cake making and you would be able to take a picture of BB with you to show them. you never know..they might be able to help you! :) Good luck!

I searched to see if there were any cake suppliers with a Betty Boop form but didn't find any. I know there are some candy forms but no cake forms. The bakery should be able to come up with something if you decide not to make it yourself. Good luck and take a picture of it for us once you come up with something.

Here the best advice I could give you on that. I have never seen cake pan's shaped like Betty. So the next best thing I think you could do is take A picture of Betty to A professional cake decorator and see what they could do with it. I was A cake decorator at my last job for 10 years and when someone would come in with A picture I would trace that picute on to A cake and then I would airbrush it with food colorings the way the picture looked or with the way the customer wanted it. Now you do have to becarfull with copy right infringment too some might not do it. So maybe you should call around first to diferent bakerys and see if they would do it? Also make sure you give them enough time to do the cake.:D I hope I was of some help.:D

That's good advice Jenny but after re-reading her post, I think she is trying to make this cake herself for the birthday party.

Hopefully she is creative enough to come up with something... maybe she should decorate with Betty Boop party supplies and then just go with a generic birthday cake?

That's what I've done in the past.

Yea decoration's might be her only option.:(

Just to let you know what I've decided to do....I've printed off a picture of Betty and have had it blown up to 11 x 14 size. I'll use the picture as a template and trace it onto a square cake (you lay the picture over top of the cake and use toothpicks to poke along the outline of the picture, then just fill in with the icing) Hopefully it'll work. It is a lot of work...but my niece is a sweetie and totally worth it. I'll post a pic when I'm done and let you all see how it turned out.

Thanks for all your responses......you are great!

JennyBoop
03-04-2004, 06:16 PM
Yea I bet it does too. One of the things I just realized is, that when I worked as A cake decorator at my local grocery store, I didn't do one Betty Boop cake design? Which is kind of surprising considering how popular Betty is.

Bikerbettyboop

So do you miss cake decorating? I bet that was a lot of work and took a lot of talent too.

pucker
03-04-2004, 09:55 PM
I love cake decorating. I only do it strictly as a hobby as it's quite a stress reliever for me. I'm certainly not a professional....but the cakes I have made have turned out pretty good (just goes to show that anyone can do wonders with a shaped cake pan and gel icing colours! ha ha) I've been asked by friends lately to do a ton of Sponge Bob cakes, so I'm actually excited to change and try the Betty Boop.

You must be an excellent decorator, JennyBoop. I might take some decorating classes (Wilton offers them) just for fun.

Don't forget to post your picture of the Betty Boop cake. Sounds like you are talented if friends are asking you to make cakes for them too.

Yea actually I do miss cake decorating, maybe sometime I can get A job in A bakery again, I do like that kind of work. The reason I quit my job, is I worked in A grocery store bakery department and they just did not know who treat their employees right at all. The grocery store business is all about how much money they can make and forget about their employees. When we have A little welcome home party for my hubby, I think I am going to make him A cake and decorate.:D Yea you should take some cake decorating classes it might be fun. I was trained at the store where I worked for A few days, and the rest I learned on my own, but I am alway's willing to learn more.:D

Jenny I've heard that about the grocery store chain bakery depts.

Ever thought of starting your own bakery business? Did you do cakes or all of it? I'd love to have a bakery inside a restaurant. We need restaurants here where I live.

Wow Jenny. I just want to let you know how much I admire and respect the soldiers who are fighting for us. I am a Canadian (live in Calgary, AB) and my father served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 42 years. He did his share of peace keeping duties in Lebanon, Egypt and Cyprus, and I will always remember how wonderful it felt every time he came home. I know that your US Forces are fighting for we Canadians and our freedom as well. We don't all agree with our Cdn "leaders" in the decision not to aid in the battle in Iraq. My heart and best wishes go out to you and your family. Tell your husband that "the great white north" says hi and "thank you!"

Hi everyone.... I finished my niece's birthday cake today. I think it looks alright. I did have a little problem with my icing when I was decorating the background of the cake, but otherwise I think it turned out well for a first try. I left a little room on the left of the cake to write one of those standard "Happy 17th Birthday" slogans. Hopefully Sara (my niece) will like it. Thanks guys... I'm pretty happy with it. Of course, every time I look at it I see mistakes or places I could have done better....but hey, we women are way to critical of ourselves anyways. ha. My 4 year old daughter helped me out, she loves to help me bake cakes. She's telling all her friends that "mommy made a betty boob cake". Sara's birthday isn't actually until tomorrow night so we'll see how she reacts. Hopefully she likes it.

Take care.

Thanks BBooper. It actually didn't take that long to do. (as far as cakes go) I think I spent about 3 hours on it. (I've been known to spend 5 or 6 decorating a cake) so this was not too bad. My niece did love it...but not as much as my sister-in-law (her mom). It was a fun birthday.

Hi HeatherBB....no problem....What I did was find a pic of Betty that looked relatively easy to copy. I printed it out on a regular sheet of paper (I made the picture about 9 inches by 12 inches to fit one of my rectangle cake pans). I then traced the picture onto white tissue paper (the kind you use in gift wrap). Once the picture was on the tissue paper, I laid it over top of the cake and used a toothpick to poke holes along all of the lines (transferring the pattern to the cake). I used one of those "cookie writer markers" to connect the toothpick holes on the cake so that I could see the outline clearly. Once I did that, I just used my cake decorating stuff to outline and fill her in. It sounds like a lot of nit picky work. but it actually did not take too much time at all. As long as the picture you choose doesn't have a ton of detail it is actually pretty easy.

over the years i've become the chosen cake maker in our family maybe i'll try it myself, although i'm only an ammeture my nephews have loved them all. I've tried my hand at Mickey Mouse, scoccer fields, race car & bike tracks, letters and number cakes. So i think the family must now include a BB cake---just for me.

All in all, it was not as painful as I thought it would be to make it. I've attached a pic....let me know what you think.

It is fantastic! I would pay for that cake.
Congrats on your talent

Those are some beautiful works of art. I saw this pic, and thought, what if you ordered a pink and red cake, and then stuck a doll into the top, popping out of the cake? Huh? Huh? What do you think?
