When I was at school, nobody could smoke inside! I thought that was normal...? They even want to make the discos and bars smoke-free... Nobody will go out then, or they will go and stand outside, and the people who live above the bar will be bothered by it! Can you still smoke at bars?

Yea it would be nice, but unfortunatly money comes into play. The government makes to much money off of cigaretts. They keep raising the prices of them but it doesn't seem to be working. If people want A cigarett real bad they will pay the money for them.:)

Yes Jenny you are right and that is so sad but true. It's always been amazing to me how much tobacco costs the insurance companies and the health care industry in general but it just goes to show that there is more power in tobacco then there is in health care. Still makes me sad.

Bikerbettyboop

I think it's illegal to flip cig butts out of car windows here in Arizona because of the fire danger... many wildfires have been started as a result of reckless or careless smokers.

BBooper
02-24-2004, 03:26 PM
it should be everywere! i mean.. what's the harm in putting out your cig butt on an ashtray in your car???

I agree BBooper... not to be picking on smokers but they should be responsible for their actions and should take the extra second to put it in the ashtray when they're done.

Does it bother you for small children to walk near the edge of the road behind the parents who are walking way out in front?

Melissa Jones
05-18-2004, 03:45 AM
absolutely - parents (guardians/adults) have a duty of care when they are with children. I always walk next to the kids with me closest to the road. as i'm more likely to be seen.

ps back to the smoking thread. Throwing smoke ends out a car window is littering a finable offence and its wrong no "butts" about it. as well as the fire danger it looks terrible. Aust has been campaigning for a while to stop smoking in pubs & clubs. its banned in reastaurants and food areas. and just this week a main beach in Sydney has banned smoking as the butts are just taking over. other councils are thinking of following. Cant wait.

Bikerbettyboop
05-18-2004, 04:25 PM
I think it's just common sense that parents shouldn't allow kids to walk close to the highway unsupervised!!

We have a wildfire here in Arizona that started right next to the highway and they believe it started by a careless motorist tossing a cig butt out the window!!

Neckless
05-18-2004, 08:47 PM
All too often I notice adults walking ahead of kiddies and they're running and playing near the busy highways. I get all knotted up inside when I see that happen.

Biker...I bet that fire started too...from a tossed out cig. Hope they put it out soon.

The wind is causing havouc with the firefighters who are doing their best to put out the wildfire. I wish smokers wouldn't be so careless when they toss their cigs out the car window.

Sammie... are you a smoker? Does the smoke bother you at the pub where you work? I have a real hard time with second hand smoke. Having been a non-smoker all my life, it's hard to breathe someone else's smoke. It's just not healthy and it sure bothers me when it happens.

wow smoking while pumping gas just how absent minded are ppl. I just started smoking about 3 1/2yrs ago and i only smoke maybe a couple a day if that and sometimes not even every day, but in the car i eaither put it in whatever my husband has been spittin in (he chews) or i put the fire out on the side of the car before i toss it to make sure there is no fire or mostly just on the highway street while driving, if there is nothing but bushes or grass around thats when i put it in hubby's can.

sammiie
05-20-2004, 07:35 AM
yes i`m a smoker but i hate people smoking when i`m eating
and in the pub it makes my chest treibble and i hate people blowing smoke in my face (i always try not to do those things to others)

so i think if i feel like that when i`m a smoker what must a non smoker feel like so non smoking pubs are good and healthier to everyone if you think how many hours at a time u sit in a pub where most of the people smoke how much damage your doing to urself and others

In regards to throwing smoke butts out the windows, I don't think smokers realise the harm their butts do to the wildlife. The butts don't break down for many years and are usually washed into stormwater drains :( . The butts then end up choking some poor animal in the ocean or river  . I'm no greenie but I don't like seeing animals suffer. I'm glad my country has taken a lead and started to ban smoking in many public places.

A man riding with his window down...threw a cigarette out and after a few minutes he realized the rear of his car was burning.
The cigarette was actually ****ed into the rear seat of his car as a result of the window being down.

In Scotland the ban on smoking in public places comes into force next year, although the legislation is being challenged. I think it will happen. There's a lot of public support, even among smokers.

I can't wait. I'm not much of a drinker, but I'd enjoy, maybe once a month, going into a bar and having a quiet beer with my wife or a few friends without inhaling a foul fug.

My wife loves the bingo. I'm not a fan, but I'd still like to take her ocassionaly. Right now it's awful. You can hardly see for other people's smoke.

Imagine what it's like to work in a bar or a bingo hall

Unfortunately, people will still smoke in cars (autos) and throw lit butts out of the window.

An aside - are cigarette ends really called butts in the US? I thought butts were something totally different over there. So when I heard of all these people pushing their butts out of their automobile windows..... :D
