Dan the Man

This cartoon is appropriate for these times of a topsy turvey housing market. Of course, the cartoon was made during the Great Depression.
Something doesn't quite make sense to me. The moon auctions the earth to the LOWEST bidder. Mars bids 50, Venus bids 40, and Saturn, of jewish persuasion, wins the bid at 20. (As Saturn hands over the money, he mumbles "here's the money, you gonif [thief] you.")
Maybe the bidding goes that way because everything is upside down.
Any ideas?
