 Hey fellow Boopers, I have A question. How old is Betty Boop Suppose to be in her cartoons. What I mean what age is she suppose to be when they created her? Did they give her one? Just curious. Like 16-to early 20's?

Well let's put it this way.... in the short "The Impratical Joker" a sign on the door says Prof Grampy. This means Grampy's job was/is a college professor. So then you assume that he lives near campus. Betty lives with him in this episode. Therefore she's probably around college age. This is all speculation, but its as close to fact as we'll get.

I just saw that this question has been around for awhile, but I had not seen it until now.
To set the record straight, Max Fleischer wrote an article in the March 26, 1933 issue of "Radio Guide" magazine. This is the only article written by Max about Betty. She is on the cover - a rare find if you can get one.
Anyway, in the article he states " .. . Betty Boop is (and will always remain) sixteen years old", and that her birthday is April 1st (not Valentines Day!)
Hope this helps!

D*rn. I was about to show what a smart*** I was and post she was 16, but someone beat me to it.
I think she was sixteen in Boop-Boop-a Doop, but in most other cartoons she seems a bit more knowing. If she was sixteen in Bamboo Isle she should get her bottom spanked (volunteers?).
Seriously, there is an air of underlying innocence about Betty, for all she sees no point in hiding her looks. That's what makes her so appealing. I don't like the pics where she's hitching a lift and showing a leg. I don't think she'd do that.
Then again sixteen year olds in the early 1930s maybe were more mature than sixteen year olds today. They wren't at school (especially girls) and they knew a bit more of the world. The prim years of the moral revolution (1934 onwards) changed all that.

I have to agree BBooper.... I remember years ago when people were getting married in their teens... like my grandparents... they were all married and having children before they were 18! So times have changed!

:o wow! i supose then it was what women were expected to do, get married and have children! i think now women are more business minded rather than family.

I have heard something along those lines, but it was also part of the beginning of censorship, and the Hays Act/code was the main reason.
It was introduced in 1934 I think

Times change all the time!! I personally don't think Betty is any more scantily dressed than Pamela Anderson or some of the other actresses and female singers.
