You should be able to order it from bookstores. Amazon.com probably has it. I just found it on Wal-mart's page when I was doing a web search for some other stuff.

I'm glad to see the book finally got published. My wife & I got a very preliminary copy from him at the Betty Boop Festival a few years back. It must have taken a huge amount of time & effort to finish it.

Hey John it's good to see you visit the forum once in a while.
So you were fortunate enough to meet Leonard in person? I also have a signed copy from him and it's a wonderful addition to my library. It's very conprehensive. I think he is working on a second edition? Have you also heard that?

Valerie are you saying the taxes in France came to that much or taxes being charged by a seller in the US? Was it shipping charges or taxes?
Valerie
02-24-2004, 02:01 PM
i looked at it at lycos and to cost of items in general added to ccost of shipping and taxes come the same as the price in france, i tried to see at truelegend for exemple to add some items and make an false order shipping increased anytime i added a thing it was calculated according the weight!

Hi Valerie... are you looking for the Betty Boop collector's guide by Leonard Ellis? If so, I just processed an order on our website and the shipping to France is only $15.50. The cost of the book is $19.99 so the total would only be $35.49. Is that how much it costs in France?
Valerie
02-25-2004, 02:36 AM
i 've already paid for it 40 euros and waiting for it to arrive now well i would have saved 5 euros then but i've heard i had to pay something to the post man if i oredered from US !? next time i'll ask you before buying in france!

02-25-2004, 08:07 PM
Oh please don't feel like you needed to order it from me, I was just checking on the shipping costs to France because the rate you stated seemed to be pretty high to me.
Don't worry... I'm sure it will work out fine for you. It's a good book and one you will enjoy. It's a good addition for any Betty Boop collector because it has values and is so informative.
Valerie
02-26-2004, 03:18 AM
i don't feel obliged but i'm alxays checking and i would be proud to be able to get an item from a person i "know" in the US not to be proud of the transaction by itself but that would make another history for this item!!!!!!!!

Thanks Valerie for your kind sentiments. I wish I had sent all the books to Leonard Ellis for his signature before selling them because then they'd be more valuable... dummy me...
We've discussed a Betty Boop convention and I want him to be one of the guests so he can do a book signing.

Bobbie West, president of one of the Betty Boop clubs and I have been discussing a convention.
She is thinking of something big next year but I'd like to do something small this fall. I've also discussed it with Lizzy.
I've looked at So. California, Las Vegas and Laughlin.. I'm leaning more towards Laughlin just because it's more reasonable cost wise. But I just don't know how many people would come and what kind of budget we'd have.

Hello,
The Betty Boop festival is held in the parking lot of a store called Heavenly Choice in Montebello California. Maria and I would be interested in another convention if you start one. Laughlin sounds fine. Betty & casinos makes a good match.

Thanks John for the info on the festival in Montebello. When is it? June?
I'll keep you posted about the possible convention if we can pull it all together.
Speaking of Betty and casinos... have you ever played the Betty Boop slot machines? They are fun!!
Don gave me some Betty Boop lottery scratchers for Valentine's Day and they were all losers......... oh well....... at least it goes for education.

Hi,
The Betty Boop Festival is usually mid July on Saturday & Sunday. I will post the correct dates when I find one of the flyers. Maria has donated lots of money to the Vegas casinos that have Betty Boop slot machines. There are quite a few different types of machines.

Hey John, please tell Maria that she is not alone!! Yep, I've made my donations as well to keep the Betty Boop machines a good choice for the casinos.
But I don't go to Las Vegas (having lived there for 3 summers was enough for me.. ha ha)
We like to go to Laughlin (it's closer to us) and certainly not as big and crowded as Las Vegas and they also have Betty Boop slot machines too.
It's fun but I usually have to wait in line to play the machines because they are always so busy. I've even looked into buying a machine to put in our game room here at home.

Wow those slot machines look really cool, the next time I'm in A gambling boat I'm going to have to look for one to play.:D

Hi Jenny... if they don't have them on the gambling boats, then you should ask them to put some in for you. That's what I did at a couple of the Laughlin casinos.

thats the book i bought recently, i was kinda disapointed, because i felt like i knew more about betty boop items then the author! thers a lot of vital vintage items not included in the book, which i thought would be priority! there are inaccurate facts, and some of the values are well off key. i dont claim to be an expert, but it could of been done a whole lot better.
guess its not all bad dough there are some very interesting items shown and i did use it to find out betty boops age :)

Hello,
I am very interested in your comments about the book. I would certainly like to know what errors you found. I spent eight years researching, so I would like to note those items in error.
The original manuscript is 160 pages of text, 3,000 photos, so there are MANY items not in the book, simply due to the publishing constraints. If you would like a copy of the original manuscript, please let me know.
Best regards,
-Leonard

hi boopman, its great to hear from the author himself :)
iv gota say the books great and id love to see the original, all id say about the book is that it felt like you did not fill the pages enough as you cud of fitted a lot more items onto each page, which gave the feeling that u didnt have enough items to discuss, (which obviously is the opposite)
also i felt a few of the prices were totaly different to what i have observed them being sold for on online auctions, eg the rag dolls, also i have 14 franklin mint domes were u stated there are only 12, i was disapointed to not see more colectable danbury mint items (but only because im a huge fan of danbury mint) i appreciate u cudnt fit everything into the book, and i greatly enjoyed it, if u want more detailed comments il put some more detailed ideas together
hopefuly u can see my comments as constructive critisism and not be offended as i mean no harm, and i use your book all the time bess xx :)

Hi,
I did not know that you had replied until I went and searched. . . so I'm glad I found it! No offense taken at all; I appreciate feedback as my intent is to be as accurate and informative as possible.
The Danbury Mint, etc items . .. . I had to make a decision to put a cut-off date on the documented items, so in general, that was at year 2000, although there are some items beyond that date.
And, I too, was disappointed at how much the editors cut. Basically, they had a contract with the printer for so many pages, and it was a fight to get anything changed once they sent me the proof to read. One of the downsides to not self-publishing! Some people have said there are not enough vintage items (and I agree!) so when we do a Volume2, I want to concentrate on the older stuff.
As far as prices, I had originally stated that I did not want this as a price guide, but again, "publisher knows best" so I agreed. Also, I'm certain items in U.K. reflect availability, so what may be 'market value' here in the US may not be accurate over there.
I would appreciate any feedback you'd like to offer. Especially feedback about descriptions, dates, or items omitted.
If you send me your mailing address, I'll sent you a copy of the manuscript. I have been offering this to members of the fan club for the cost of printing it, which is $15. Why don't you send the info to me directly via email (boopman2@comcast.net) so you don't have to worry about posting it here.
Thanks again!
-Leonard
