Hi everyone!
As promised in another thread, I am starting this one so that those of us who want to start dieting and excercising to lose weight and control it can come here and be a support group for each other. We all want to look fabulous like Betty Boop, now don't we?
I wrote a lot about excercise in another thread, so I have copied it and am pasting it here:

Yes, excercise is the key for me. Soon I'll have the workout room at the shop set up and I will try to be diligent and work off those inches. My goal is to lose at least 20 pounds and lots of inches. I cannot do it unless I excercise. Been there...done that... When I was much younger I tried all kinds of different diets. The problem was, when you went off the diet the weight piled right back on and usually was even worse than before.

You need to vary the type of excercise, too. Alternate aerobic activity (walking, biking, aerobics, or in my case an eliptical trainer) with strengthening excercises. I change what I do so I don't get bored. I have a couple of very good videos that I use, as well as using weight training, and now we have a new piece of equipment called the Crossbow (purchased at Sears) which is likew the Bowflex you see on TV. And of course, swimming is great excercise... in a couple of months!!!! Regular excercise increases your body's metabolism naturally so that it burns off most of the calories that you consume. Just eat healthy and watch your portions... the excercise will bring you where you need to be.
I find that I feel so much better when I get regular excercise. I get stronger, my bad back gets more support and is less likely to go out on me, I sleep better, and.... I look much better and feel more attractive. Just like Betty Boop! (Gotta love HER figure! )
The big trick is STARTING. Once I begin my program I start getting into it and it gets much easier as I go along. The first couple of sessions are really hard because I am out of shape and I tend to feel very achy and sore for a few days at first. But after a few sessions I start feeling very good afterward. At that point I really get into it and look foreward to the workout sessions.

But right now I am at square 1, and I need to start... Gotta get through those first couple of workouts.... This is really the hardest part....

I am finding that now that I have a computer I spend way too much time sitting there in front of it. Is that the case with you? It is much harder to lose weight with this more sedentary lifestyle... A regular workout at least 3 times a week is a must!!!!

Tineke, regarding your question... you are experiencing water weight gain. Despite how it seems, you should drink lots of water to hydrate yourself, but at the same time cut down on salty foods. And eat healthy and excercise.

Well, it looks like all of us here have overindulged during the holidays, and many of us want to shed those unwanted pounds. So that we can have cute figures that would make Betty Boop proud. I have an idea. Why don't we work on our diets and help each other out by being a support group for each other? That's what groups like Weight Watchers do.

Lizzy, this is good post... I think I've lost a few calories reading this.

In all seriousness, it pays to eat right and do some form of exercise.

I would say one place to start is to monitor what you eat and cut back on the junk food!!!

Another is to start walking more. Walking at a fast pace for 10 - 15 mins at least once a day is a good workout.

Don't forget to drink lots of water, but don't overdo it.

I have started drinking lots of water as I don't drink enough in general and I get dehydrated very quickley which causes mean headaches! I have also started to cut back on the chocolate situation! I am one chocoholic and to start with this is the key to helping along my new years resolution!
I have also started going to a toning studio. I don't know if they have these in America, but they're great. Bascially, you sit in these chairs and the different chairs work on different parts of your body. You have to clench here and there, but for people who aren't used to intensive excercise (like me - im guilty!) they're fab! So I've started the way I mean to go on.....nice thread Lizzy! We can report back on how we're doing and know that everyone else is trying the same thing!

Good luck everyone! xx

So you are trying to lose about 50 pounds? I hope that you are not trying to get too skinny! Leave a little flesh on those bones!

Well, I support you in your goal. Be strong and determined and you can do it!
With such an ambitious goal, it might be easier to manage it in steps. I recommend that you try to work on five pounds (or half a stone) at a time. Small bites won't make you choke!
(I just made that up!:D )
So, keep us posted when you reach the half stone goal!;)

You can do it!!!!!!!!

:D

I thought 1 stone was 14lbs? Thats what I've been working with anyway! Oh well - I'm looking to lose about 1 stone - want to get into shape for the summer as I'm sure the rest of you do! However....my will power is not good! I already cracked! oops!

:D This is A cool idea for A thread. Now like I was saying in the other thread. I have lost eight sizes in clothes I went from A size 22-24 I sometimes wore A size 26 now I am down to A 16 in jeans and 14-16 in shirts am I proud of myself yea! I'm sorry if it sound's like I'm bragging I don't mean too. Ok someone asked for advice about losing wieght. Now first off if you want really good advice ask your doctor first before starting any diet. I have been exercising off and on mainly on for about 4 years now. If you are new to exercise start out slow don't push yourself because you likley to hurt yourself or burn out to soon, but you should get at least 3-5 day's of moderate exercise. Do A veriety of exersices so you don't get bored and so you work different muscles in your body. When icomes to eating just watch what you eat, eat in moderation, don't ever skip any meal starving yourself won't help it's only going to make yourself more hungry and you will want to eat more. You should also be motivated to want to lose weight, that's my trick to loosing this weight. When my hubby comes home from Iraq we are planning on starting A family and I want to be healthy when I do become pregnant and I am also doing it for myself it had helped me get through all of this mess of being deployed it has really helped with my moods I don't get as depressed and I'm not sitting around the house doing nothing. You don't have to join A gym you can go for walks, do some sort of exersice video tape there are all sorts of way's to get exercise. Sorry for rambling.;)

livingbooper
01-13-2004, 12:35 AM
No, you are not rambling at all. You offered very good advice.
I am very proud of you for your accomplishment. Great job! Your story is a great motivator, and will be helpful to others.

I agree that starvation diets don't work and I believe that some may be harmful. I also don't subscribe to fads. I agree that moderation is the key. Just watch your portions and eat a healthy, balanced diet. Once in a while it is o.k. to splurge so you don't feel deprived. That way you will stick to your regimen.

(So Bexi...it's o.k. Just back on the program, o.k.???)

Let's keep it up ladies!!!!!!:D

It's all good - I'm going to my toning tables tonight with my mum! Had my trial and the real programme starts tonight! It's mostly about losing inches rather than weight I think but either way I'm hoping that it works! Keep it up girls! ;) xxx

Good luck Sammiie!

Also, I think we should all measure ourselves and keep track of our inches. Sometimes we don't see the progress on the scale but there is often progress in size.... and after all, we are mainly interested in getting smaller and fitting into smaller clothes, aren't we? Then the stones and pounds don't matter as much....:)

Well, I haven't had much luck as of late myself. But I still have the goal. I'm working too much and grabbing a meal when I can...which means eating the wrong stuff sometimes...
We haven't set up the workout room yet at our shop. Got the room mostly done but we've moved onto other rooms which will hold merchandise and are priorities.

But as soon as they are done...watch out. I'll be working out soon, I know I will!!!;)

I have heard the weight watchers diet is good? Isn't it expensive though? I have never tried those kind's of diets before I have alway's done diets on my own, just like the one I'm on now except this time I really have succeeded.:D But you should do what is comfortable for you everybody is different.:D

Sticking to a strict text book diet doesn't work for me so I just try and cut down on the naughty things that I like to treat myself to! The weight watchers diet doesn't have to be expensive unless you actaually want to go to the meetings and do it properly. You can get little packs that tell you how many points different foods have then you work out what you can eat in a day. It's all very mathematical and complicated! I tried it for a while then found it was too much like hard work to add up all the points! :D

JennyBoop
01-19-2004, 11:37 AM
Yea that's part of the reason i didn't do the weight watchers diet to much math involved adding points here and there.

Yes, it's all about eating healthy and eating in moderation. Calorie intake is key. Watch the fat and the carbs. Around here people are going on the Atkins diet which is based on high protein low carbohydrates. But I believe in a balanced diet, so my philosophy is to eat to live, try not to live to eat, and to watch the calories and fat. But I'm afraid that the experts are giving more credence to the low carb diets, so I'll have to face the fact that I may need to cut out the bread and pasta...:(

:) Hello Livingbooper, I have A girlfriend who was on the Atkins Diet and she didn't really like it because she's not doing it anymore. She say's it's to hard to stick with, and she really want's to lose weight. Now I have heard on news countless times that the Atkins diet is kind of dangerous were people are lacking in vitamines in the food's they eat, they try and make up for it in taking ALOT of vitamines and then they end up getting really sick from that. My friend who was on the Atkins diet also felt tired all the time. I have heard they are trying to bann the diet also because people are getting sick. If you decide to do the Atkins diet just becareful and do some investigating into. Ok enough of my soap box I'll shut up now.:D PS. Good luck to everyone on their diets.

bexi3
01-20-2004, 11:48 AM
I wouldn't think that the Atkins diet is particularly healthy. You don't get a balanced diet cos you're totally ignoring carbohydrates. I'd be completely messed up cos I eat a lot of carbohydrates - potato, pasta, rice - so the Atkins diet wouldn't be any good for me!! :D

livingbooper
01-20-2004, 02:22 PM
Well, don't worry....I'm not going to go on that one. I too believe that it is not all that healthy, even though it seems to work for some people. But I think it's wise to watch those carbs and also the fat.
When I was a young lady about 20 years old I tried the Atkins diet when it was new and just came out. It made me feel sick so I stopped. It's nice to know that experts are looking into it. It's all the rage in the news, but I still don't think it's safe.
I'm glad that you guys are all so up to date!;)

Hey Jenny! John sounds like a great guy.
Isn't it exciting to go shopping and find out that you hafta buy something smaller????? I remember when I lost a bunch of weight when I was 29 years old. I lost as much as I thought I was going to, bought a number of new things, only to drop down another size the next month! Now THAT'S exciting!
So if you are making such good progress, don't buy too many new things until you stabilize...you could surprise yourself.

Well, I wasn't going to say too much... but your hubby is definately a good catch! Gee, with your new svelt body, and such a babe coming home, I suppose we won't be seeing much of you in a couple of months.....;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) Hee hee hee!

I love Marilyn Monroe but know almost nothing about her! I just went on a website and found that qoute and really loved it! She's so beautiful though. It's such a shame when all these people kill themselves because they're not happy with themselves. I think it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks (as corny as that may sound!)

Marilyn is such a fascinating woman.

Isn't it funny that all the money and fame in the world still cannot make you happy... you have to be happy with yourself. That quote of Marilyn's is right on.
Self esteem is so important to a person, and should be instilled in everyone at a young age. That way we can all feel good about ourselves no matter what challenges we face and we can face them head on with strength.

So let me say here that all you Boopers are wonderful beautiful people!

THE LEMONADE DIET

Ok, so I just received a fax at work about The Lemonade Diet. Ive never heard of this before, but it says that it has taken America by storm. Does anyone know anything about it? Surely it doesn't mean you consume only lemonade!!!?

JennyBoop
03-10-2004, 11:50 AM
I have never heard of that diet? I would hope youc could have more then just lemonade?

livingbooper
03-10-2004, 01:52 PM
Well, this is just another trendy diet. It is really fasting by another name, and lemonade has been chosen as the liquid of choice. Many people believe in fasting from time to time... that is, they stop eating solid food and only drink liquids for a day or two. They believe it to purify the system and it is a good way to start a diet program... it you have the willpower to do it.... (I can't.) This helps to shrink your stomach and gives you a jump start to your diet, as well as cleanses out your system. The main thing to keep in mind is that fasting is o.k. for very short periods. It is not meant to be done over an extended period of time. That would be very unhealthy.

10eke
03-10-2004, 02:42 PM
I've done something like that. For a week I only ate fruit and drank juice. That's supposed to clean your system too.

Bikerbettyboop
03-10-2004, 04:14 PM
I've never heard of the lemonade diet but like Livingbooper says.. be careful because it could be harmful to just drink lemonade and nothing else.

It doesn't sound that appealing to me.

bexi3
03-11-2004, 04:35 AM

03-17-2004, 01:47 PM
It is a tropical fruit and trust me they do taste good... remind me somewhat of a tangy peach... hmm... maybe? Does anyone else have a better description?

I've heard that fruit juices are good when you're on a diet if they aren't high in sugar content. Now that spring is quickly approaching, I will work on shedding some of my excess holiday pounds by mowing the grass with a push mower and eating more fresh fruits and vegetables. No more holidays sweets.... except for homemade ice cream. We have an old hand crank machine and you really get a work out with it!!

I want somone to exercise with me but every time I ask my mom or somone they lough or just pick on me about it.I dont like to exercise in front of my family.I have tryed and I lose about 5 pounds so far.I have a long ways to go.My big proberlm is soda pop.I am a big soda drinker.I am trying to cut back on that and drink water insted.Even the diet is bad for me and I drink it alot.Sometimes if I am out of diet and I know how bad it is for me I will drink reguler. When I get up set if I cant walk witch I do a lot but if I cant I will eat.

Bikerbettyboop

Hi Kayla it sounds so frustrating not to have anyone to exercise with you or go for walks with you. I'm sorry that your mom won't go with you. That's sad and she's missing out on a lot by not spending more one on one time with you. I hope someday she will regret not being there for you when you asked her to do things with you.

Don't let your family laugh at you...that is mean spirited of them.

Oh and I know what you mean about soda pop... it is almost addicting isn't it? I drink diet too but it doesn't taste anywhere near as good as the real thing!!

It's so tough to try and stay healthy and lose weight isn't it?

But remember losing 5 lbs is much better than putting on another 5 lbs. So hang in there and stay determined, ok?

It will be short but very sweet the soldiers all want to go home when we pick them up.:D I am just so releved that they all are out of Iraq now and I can breath A little easier now, I was really worried about them convoying down for two days from Iraq but he said everything went pretty smoothly.

Hi Jenny!!

Our trip to Laughlin was awesome... got to ride our motorcycles with tons of other motorcycle enthusiasts... made some new friends, saw some old friends and visited Oatman, Arizona. This was the 22nd Laughlin River Run and the most motorcycles ever! We saw Jesse James and other motorcycle builders too! And Lynyrd Skynyrd and Joan Jett and 38 Special were there.. oh and Ricky Van Shelton too... all were in concert... plus a bunch of free concerts!!! It was an awesome time.... the time just flew by!

Yes, I noticed you've done some shopping and we'll get your order out as soon as we can!! Thanks very much!!

And hey Jenny that is FANTASTIC news about John coming home in a couple weeks... hoooooooray!!!! I am so happy for you both! Thank God for answered prayers!

Did you hear about Pat Tillman (he was a football player for the Arizona Cardinals who left his football career a few months ago and joined the Army Rangers with his brother) He was killed a few days ago. Sure is a tragic loss. He was a real hero! He was 27 years old. He graduated from Arizona State University and said he only wanted to play football for the Arizona Cardinals and he did. He's originally from San Jose, CA. We'll never forget him!

JennyBoop
04-26-2004, 07:10 PM
Well from the way it sounds you had A fantastic time on your trip that is so cool. Yea I am so excited about my hubby. He called me yesterday and we are both sooooooooo excited that is being almost over it's just A matter of week's now. Yea it is such A tradgedy that Pat Tillman died but I have the utmost respect for the man he is A HERO in my book. Any man who gives up A very lucrative football career to serve and protect his country is allright with me. My husband told me that Pat Tillmans death was all over the Stars and Stripes news paper that they get over there. He also said that him and the rest of his miltary unit all consider him A true hero in their book.

Bikerbettyboop
04-26-2004, 08:46 PM
I remember watching him play football for ASU and I thought he was a wild and crazy guy cause he had long hair. He isn't one of those huge NFL players but was well built and strong and fast!

My mom came over Friday and told me about him and she was crying. She's a big college football fan and she was really upset about his death.

Yes, he is a true American hero because he walked away from millions of dollars with the Cardinal team to join the army and serve our country and our state is very proud of him.

Thats sad but he did a brave thang.I could not join the army but I am proud of those who do.

Hi Jenny... wow you lost a whole person! That was a lot of weight to lose... I hope you're not going to be so thin that he'll just run right past you looking for someone a little larger... NAH that won't happen!!!

Congratulations on the weight loss ... boy that's some accomplishment! Good for you!!! It doesn't sound like you need to lose anymore though. Be careful cause I sure wouldn't want you to be too thin.

That's what I keep telling myself... these extra 20 lbs are my insurance against being too thin... sounds like a good excuse.. ha.
Really I should lose the extra pounds before it become too difficult to lose.

I'll bet you are getting very, very excited... only a few more days right? Hooray for you and your upcoming reunion and your husband is right!! He's definitely going to love you! Who wouldn't???? You're a wonderful wife, sister, aunt and friend!!

Have a great weekend... love and hugs!! And don't forget to have the camera ready so we can see all those reunion pics.

Hi BikerBetty... No I'm not going to get to much more thinner, I think I might look A little funny if I lost to much more weight becuase I'm big boned anyway. I'm actually happy with the way I look now if I don't lose anymore weight I will be happy with what I accomplished. As for your weight loss BikerBetty you lose how ever much weight you want as long as you are comfortable with it. You have to do what ever makes you happy. Yea I am getting very excited about him coming home it's A matter of A few weeks now!!! But also on the other hand I am getting nervous. I know that may sound strange but I have gotten use to being home by myself again and living on my own now I have to get use to living with someone again. I got use to doing things my way, now when I make decisions I have to include someone else. We are both going to have to make adjustments when he get's home. I'm sure me and him are going to be just fine it's just I'm A little nervous about it and I'm sure he is having some feelings too about all of this but he is really excited of course. We were joking around on the phone last Sunday saying that we are going to be arguing over the remote control for the TV. I told him if all we are arguing about is the remote control then we are doing just fine. Well I hope you have A great weekend.

Congratuations Jenny. I am so very proud of you. You are an inspiration.

I am afraid that I am slipping the other direction. I stopped excercising and I sat around a lot while my aunt was dying and after her death while I was grieving. I am just starting to get back on track. I have been working in my garden and planting flowers which is helping me to be more active. I think that this week I will start my excercise routine... again... one more time *deep breath*...
It's hard when a woman gets to be middle aged... it's a lot harder to get the pounds off. And I am going through "the change" so I think that has something to do with how tough its been.

I am so thrilled that Jenny has been so successful! You must post us a picture of the new you. It does inspire me! Thanks!:D

Hey girls I have looked at your threads and have been trying to get some ambition going!! I thought I would give ya all some advice IMO kind of advice. I was dieting before I found out I was pregnant and I lost a good 5-8 lbs and continued to lose weight the first couple of months of my pregnancy.

I know you all have goals to try to get to but make sure your goal is reachable, If you want to lose 50 lbs you might want to take that and cut it back. Say 10 lbs first, and when you hit that go another 10.

My main reason why I lost my weight was eating right.
The first thing I did was to go throught my pantry and fridge. I got rid of all of the foods with hight carbs' ie my pasta and breads. If you must have bread, or pasta get the whole grain stuff.
My popcorn had to go and all of the other snack foods.
I replaced my snack foods with the following items:
Low Fat yogurt, Low Fat Cheese sticks
Turkey sandmeat.
Carrots, natural Peanut butter, Celery, I started eating more salads with Fat Free dressings, but the best dressing to get is the Basalmic Dressing.

I started eating breakfast as well, good breakfast no cereal, Eggs were my favorite cause you can make omlets and other stuff. Cheese and canadian bacon are ok to have as long as the carbs are not to high.

For dinner I would have a chicken breest with asparagus, brocolli, or calliflower along with a very nutricious desert, I was not a big fan of this dessert until I put it in the blender or food processor:

One serving:
Riccota Cheese 1/2 cup
1 tbls Vanilla
Half a package of any kind of fat free sugar free pudding
and 1 or 2 packages of Splenda or NutraSweet, or other sugar substite.

I started walking my son to the park every other day
The more I started watching what I ate and doing more than what I was doing I had more energy.

The diet I have suggested is just a general version of The Southbeach Diet. You can find the web site just remember, my diet is different cause of being pregnant I have to have those Carb's....The diet is more strick about not having any carb's what so ever.

In the end I had lost 12 lbs and I was pregnant. But my clothes were fitting better for while at least. :D

I hope I helped ya all in some way. Email me if you want to know more:):) RLAOEHLER@MSN.COM

Ha Neckless that was funny...

you all are going to laugh but when I was reading this, I was eating a fun size Snickers bar for lunch.. haha... and this is supposed to be the weight watcher thread.

Mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), with several subspecies, are slightly larger than the whitetail and have a distribution across the western third of the U.S. Much of what was originally mule deer territory has been invaded by the highly adaptable whitetail and the two species have hybridized.

Mule deer, commonly called a muley, gets its name from its large mule-like ears. Muleys use a peculiar gait called a "stott" when they bounce on all four legs at once, which allows them to change direction quickly to avoid predators.

Mule deer are often less afraid of people than the whitetail and they have caused fatalities in humans and pets. They should be approached with caution or, preferably, not at all. Attempting to chase them from your yard may be dangerous!

The antlers of the mule deer are distinguished by uniform branching. Their color can vary from brown to light tan between the subspecies. Their tail is smaller and darker colored than the whitetail.

The reason I was chasing it was because I thought it was hung up in barbed wire but it wasn't... thankfully!!

here's a website where you can get more info on mule deer and see a picture of one:
http://www.desertusa.com/feb97/du_muledeer.html
