What is bipolar disorder?
Bipolar disorder (also called manic-depressive disorder) is a medical condition that causes extreme mood changes that alternate between episodes of depression and mania. You may return to a normal mood between these extremes. However, a depressive or manic episode can appear suddenly, without an obvious trigger. Although mood changes associated with bipolar disorder can be difficult, effective treatment is available.
What causes bipolar disorder?
The cause of bipolar disorder is not known. It may run in families. Bipolar disorder may be linked to problems in the balance of chemicals in the brain. It may also be linked to problems with how the endocrine system works. Another theory is that the structure or size of certain parts of the brain may be abnormal.
Who is affected by bipolar disorder?
Bipolar disorder is common and occurs equally among males and females. Over 3 million Americans—about 1% of the population—suffer from bipolar disorder, with similar rates existing in other countries.2 Bipolar disorder often begins between the ages of 15 and 24, although diagnosis and treatment may not begin until several years later.
Can bipolar disorder be treated?
Bipolar disorder can be effectively treated. Treatment of bipolar disorder includes medication, counseling, and sometimes a combination of both. You and your doctor can discuss which treatment is right for you. Learning to recognize the early symptoms of your manic and depressive episodes can help, because early treatment can reduce their impact on your daily life. If bipolar disorder is not treated, it can lead to serious illness, more extended treatment, and even death due to suicide or reckless or risky behavior. It is also important that your family members learn about the disorder or get supportive counseling because bipolar disorder greatly affects the entire family.

Thank you for the information BikerBetty. The only thing different about Marilyn's mom, who's name by the way was Gladys Baker. They didn't have all the medical information and treament options for Marilyns mom to help her back then in 1926 when Marilyn was born. Now don't quote me on this but alot of Marilyn's doctor's thought Marilyn might have been Bi-Polar with all the mood swings that she had but instead of trying to get her the good help that she needed Hollywood just kept giving her all these different drugs and all these different so-call Phsycologists (Dr. Greenson A complete nut job if you ask me). Her so-called friends didn't bother to get her help either.:(

Some Like It Hot was the movie that got me interested in Marilyn!!! I also like Jack Lemmon he was funny dressed as A woman and named Joshephine. Here is A little tid bit of info about the movie...They were originally going to make the movie in colour but had to change it to black and white when they seen how the makeup that Jack L. and Tony Kurtis wore when they dressed up as women looked on film. According to the director it just didn't look right.

(Aaahhh-hahahaha) Hello everyone.:D No Marilyn did not have any tattoos. Now wether or not she liked Betty Boop I'm not sure but, Norma Jeane (aka Marilyn) was born June 1st 1926 so when Betty came out Norma Jeane was only 4 years old so she might have liked her when she was A child. Oh shoot I just reminded myself that Marilyn's birthday is coming up, I have to do something for her birthday, I know corney.:o But hey she's my girl.!!!:D
