Does any1 know how an italian charm braclet works?

I know what it looks like and stuff, But i wanted to know if you have to buy the braclet then add all the charms or what.or buy enough charms to make the braclet. Please let me know if you know anything.

If you go to your local jewlers they will probably sell silver or gold charm braclettes with a few charms already attached. you then add you own. my nana has a silver and a gold one. i remember when i was littler i loved playing withthe charms. my favourite was the old woman who lived in a shoe. the charm was a boot and if you lifed to top it has tiny people inside! :D
