I don't, but I wish I did! I'm new to these forums here, and have just started to browse around... My collection (seeming pretty small right about now.. lol) doesn't really have any older items, which I'd like, but my more recent stuff is growing at a nice rate... :o) Look forward to seeing more of collections and browsing all these posts! Take care fellow boopers!

Valerie your pin sounds absolutely wonderful. I wish I had some of the older items too but they are rare and very expensive when they do become available.

I have those domes (except the stand/shelf) i got them from Franklin Mint about 6 years ago. They are my pride and joy of my collection. I would REALLY LOVE to get the Wizard of OZ one aswell. anyone seen it lately for sale???

I dont have anything really old though some fabric from the late '70's is probably the oldest i have.

Valerie that pin sounds really nice have you got a pic yet you can share with us?

Bikerbettyboop
05-11-2004, 03:55 PM
you have some Betty Boop fabric from the 70's Melissa?

Melissa Jones
05-11-2004, 11:48 PM
yep - well at least i think that is when it was from. A friend gave it to me, her mum used to make her clothes out of it when she was 2. she is a few years younger than so i'm really not sure how old the fabric is.

Bikerbettyboop
05-12-2004, 03:05 PM

erm, to be honest dont know!!! LOL maybe by checking if they are listed in any collectors guides. or if they are older items. some newer items may not be made any more and so can b rare too, but to be honest, i dont collect coz of rarity or value, i truly love betty boop and collect items i love! and suggest this is the best way to go! if they get rare in the future then its a bonus!
bess xx

I have 12 of them. which i love - they are soooo totally out of bounds to everyone, except to look at only. Even when we move I pack them, I move them & only I unpack them. that way no one will get in trouble if something happened.

I love the collectors ones you've shown. I knew of the Wizard of OZ but have never seen the other. now i must have them both.

hey boobsie - i feel exactly the same way. i hope to have a little girl to whom i will pass on my obsession and she will take just as good care of them. But if not well dunno.... perhaps they can get buried with me like the Pharohs in Egypt.

Hey stop all this talk about what you're going to do with your collections after you're gone.. you all are young and will have many more wonderful years to enjoy your collections. Don't worry about whose going to inherit what til you're all old and gray!!!

Melissa Jones
05-24-2004, 08:05 PM

but its stil a worry!!! wat if i have kids that are real brats and decide to break my collection for fun.... lol now i really wudnt know wat to do, ....hehe im remembering wat i was like as a kid here!!! i lost so much of my mums favorite most expensive jewelry as a child just by playing about with it and now she always jokes about and says she doesnt have anything for me to inherit anymore! lol

Bikerbettyboop
05-25-2004, 12:25 PM
Oh well then I guess you need to start preparing for that possibility now by putting your collection under lock and key!! And threaten your kids with house arrest if they even so much as touch one of your collectibles... Ha... I'm just kidding... but really I guess we just need to make sure the valuables are put out of reach.

I have a two year old great nephew who loves to come visit and he can be a little ornery sometimes... so I try to have somethings around for him to play with instead of my valuable collection.

Melissa Jones
05-25-2004, 09:50 PM
My nieces & nephews know that BB is way out of bounds. they dont even dare to go near them. They are bit scared of my "evil glare" but my bark is far worse than my bite.

I did have an inncident at xmas time with part of my collection. We had my Cousin & her Hubby stay over and we were playing BB monopoly and having a bit of xmas cheer. When oops my cousin accidentally tipped her glass of red wine over the money & property cards. She was soooooooo upset & i didn't know whether to laugh or cry. So we all just laughed & still do.

Bikerbettyboop
05-26-2004, 08:49 PM
Oh Mel I'm so sorry to hear that your Betty Monopoly game now has red wine stain on some of it... like they say... accidents do happen... at least it wasn't intentional and you all got a good laugh out of it.

Lil 74.. you're sweet to think that I'm still young. I'll bet I'm old enough to be your grandmother. LOL!!

Melissa Jones
05-26-2004, 08:56 PM
its now been nick named "blood Money" ha ha - I love my BB collection but i love my family more so laughter was the best way to deal with it.

You're only as young as you feel Biker and you're one groovy chick in our hearts.

Mel that's an excellent way to look at things!!! Sentiment means so much more than financial gain anytime.. right?

We had a similar thing happen at Christmas... we were all putting together a 1500 piece Harley puzzle... it was a gift to my hubby... we spent 2 months working on it... my husband, mom, my sis, her husband and our dog Scooter was always around to lend a hand... err paw....... well.. one evening, my sis dropped a bunch of pieces on the floor and before she could get them, my dog Scooter grabbed one and chewed it up ... needless to say we couldn't use that one piece... so we have a puzzle with 1499 pieces!! My husband glued it together and mounted it on poster board and hung it on the wall... he wrote Scooter's name in the spot where the piece is missing but we all laughed and blamed my sis for it even happening in the first place... we always have everyone who worked on our puzzles sign them when they're complete. It's a great way to entertain during those long cold winter months!!

Melissa Jones
05-26-2004, 09:16 PM
i love doing puzzles. but they usually get pulled apart. but then i redo them. The last one i did was of the Taj Mahal. Pretty hard with all the White pieces.

These "oops" moments have become treasured family memories and like any good yarn get better with age. (hey sounds like BB)

Bikerbettyboop
05-27-2004, 02:48 PM
I just bought another puzzle... we've gotten into those dimensional ones.. you know like shapes? We have one that is shaped like a motorcycle and I just got another motorcycle shaped one.. this one has 10 motorcycles within the one cycle!! Cool huh?

We frame all our puzzles and decided to put them on the ceiling in our "Harley" room!!

"my girlsfriends back & your gonna be in trouble hey nah hey nah my girlsfriends back" Oops sorry thats my really bad singing and yes i do know the song is about a Boyfriend but it sounded good at the time. anyway back to it.

my friend is back from san Diego. and she brought my a BB key ring - a BB wallet - & a t-shirt (not BB). the key ring has BB lying on a deck chair by a pool with San Diego on the bottom. And the BB wallet has BB dressed in gym clothes & working out. they are both really quite cute.

My friend is a sweetie - we have been best mates since grade 11 (4th year high school).

I got a couple of rag dolls the other day to add to my collection - i have the 'french maid' & 'stars & stripes' they are quite cute but now i want others. I have seen them but have to get a few pennies in the bank first.

Its really great that we all have old friends. I think mine know me better than i know myself at times. I dont know where i'd be without 'em. Mary is far better than my sister as she'll never "dob" on me to mum as generally she's right by my side when the mischeif occurs. ha ha.
my mum has a friend who she has been best mates with since they were 4 or 5 (my mum is now 53)
p.s. interesting bit of useless information about my mum she shares the same birthday with Mae Questel 13th Sept.

I just saw one of my oldest friends this past Sunday evening. Had dinner with she and her husband. They were visiting her folks who just moved from California and I'm so glad we were able to get together again. I hadn't seen her for a while. We met in 1961 and have been friends ever since... through thick and thin!
