O.k. Boopers. I've moved this thread.
Let's share our ideas for our proposed Betty Boop Convention here.
We have been discussing a location. L.A. has been brought up.
Another idea I have is New York. I know we have some Boopers who live on the east coast and our European Boopers will not have as far to go.
Plus, isn't MGCHAN from there? He's our administrator at this forum.

Well, I hope everyone makes it to this thread, and I hope that other Boopers see it and join in the brain-storming....

Take it easy!:D

Hi There;
The democrats are coming to Boston in 2004 so the city can practice holding a convention for the Betty Boop fans.
I am only teasing. New York, LA, Las Vegas ( they love Betty Boop ) and Orlando ( they love Betty Boop too ) are all good choices.

Hello Follow Boopers!!!

Is there anything in the midwest? A big factor to a location there would be the "heat". New York sounds very exciting, how Las Vegas?? Now for our follow boopers in Europe, maybe a joint convention at the same time or another idea for those who want to come but can not maybe a local contest of some kind of BB which gets them here for larger contest? I don't know, I'm only throwing ideas out there. Lets really focus on a location then the pieces.

How about Ohio or PA?:D

livingbooper

Good suggestions everyone!
Actually, I'm liking the suggestion about Las Vegas. That city has conventions constantly and they are very well equipped to handle anything. Also, their prices for lodging are pretty good. And there is a lot of fun stuff to do that we can organize for a group, or go off on our own.... A city geared toward FUN!

And I believe that since Las Vegas is geared toward the tourist trade, and many people like to go there to visit, I think that the airline fares won't be too bad.

Keep on posting Boopers!
Regarding the midwest....I know very little about it....
Please share more about this area....please tell why you think Ohio, PA or anywhere else would be a good choice. Any particular city in mind????

Keep on Booping!!!!

Well, if I ever make it to Britain I'd like to meet some of you U.K. Boopers! It has been great meeting BikerBettyBoop here in Prescott Arizona where I am visiting. She is a very nice warm person and I'm hoping to get together with her before I leave Arizona.

I would love to meet some of my other friends I've met here.

I'm hoping we can all get discounts from the airlines. If we pick Las Vegas, I think that at least we Americans might be able to get a break.
Someone had an idea of a sister convention. Perhaps you Boopers in the U.K. can plan something at the same time, then we can all share and put photos up. Do you think that London would be a good place?

Perhaps if we have a successful convention in the U.S. then maybe some of us could afford to go to England. I know that some of us may be better off than others. Actually, I'm a little strapped for money at the moment myself, but I'm working on changing that.

Take it easy!

Do you want to be a part of this too? This is gonna take a bit of money to pull this off, for all of us. Fortunately we are being thoughtful about it and are planning for next year. I hope that this will be enough time for you to save up for the trip. I'd love to meet you.
But how would your folks feel about this? Have you discussed this with them? Please talk to them about it so they get used to the idea.
If you are able to come out and join us, I will watch over you. Tell your folks that I'll take you under my wing and make sure that you stay safe.
If you cannot make it, however, perhaps you will be able to at a later time. Who knows, maybe this could become an annual event....

Take care!

Hey Follow Boopers!!!

My question about the Midwest was just for location purposes. I really don't know nothing about the midwest but maybe someone there does. Maybe the location would easier for those out of state to get to and maybe cheaper. But I'm game for Las Vegas! How do we get a date, entertainment, vendors, speakers, cheap airline tickets, and rooms. The summer months in Las Vegas will be expensive and hot, so those things have to be considered. I've e-mailed The Hearst Corp. to see if they could help in anyway. Hope no one minds. I'm willing to do mostly anything to get this planned. I would think it wouldn't take money to get this planned just lots for talking and working. Lets keep talking!!

There are so many boopers here that I'd love to meet so Im gonna make a concerted effort to save up! Its gonna be difficult but I'll try. I really want to go to America again anyway cos I loved it when I came last year. Everyone was so frendly. One lady said to me that anyone from the UK was a friend to her which I thought was really sweet. And people actually say 'Have a nice day' after serving you! I thought that was just a stereotype!! Hehehe!
A sister convention in London sounds good, but its just a shame that we can't all be at the same one! Grr....!

Well, I think that once we get a location, then we need to book a hotel. If we pick a fun city we can have lunches, outings, perhaps see a show together. BikerBettyBoop sell BB stuff. If she's game she can be a vendor. A cool thought might be to see if we can all view some BB films in a real cinema. No THAT would be too cool!:D And we could all wear and bring many of our BB treasures! We could have a fun time with sharing our BB fashions....

Good Morning Lizzy---

Who would like to talk to bikerboop about setting up herself and other vendors while the rest of us figure out a location? Now, I hear the wheels turning--the movie shorts is a great idea!!! Maybe someone who draws BB or someone from the Corp. can come and talk about the detailed history? Have a great big BB dressup contest? Hey, I forgot, how long would we want this to last, weekend? Friday,Saturday & Sunday? I still thinK Las Vegas would be great, any other sugguestions/

Hi Betty! I'm sure BikerBettyBoop will be checking in soon. But I also know that she hates Las Vegas. So I'll wait till hear we hear what she has to say.
I'm on vacation and in Las Vegas now. Wow! We arrived last night and the view once you make it over the ridge is unbelievable! A sea of lights. And you know this city never sleeps... I saw a glow coming from behind a ridgeline (where everything else around was pitch black) from about 100 miles away. I wondered what it was... it was from Las Vegas itself, there are so many lights. Today I'll see how it is in the daytime.

Well, I'll check in with you soon.

I just posted a question about this town in the other post.
So Las Vegas is o.k. with you? COOL!

I just came back from there. There are no shortages of locations of where we could hold it. My visit was brief, however, and I had no time to get prices or anything. Many of the larger casinos have convention centers. Mandalay Bay has a huge one. I forgot which one, but at least one or two have their own cinemas. I spent the most time in Excaliber (castles, knights, and DRAGONS) and really liked the theme envoirinment there. Perhaps New York New York would be an appropriate place for a BB convention??? But I'm sure these biggie casinos are way too expensive... However I'm sure that there are many other options in that town.

I noticed from the billboards that the casinos have websites that you can check out. Perhaps we can do our research that way....

Keep on sharing your ideas Boopers!!!

Hi Michael. I checked out the pictures. Looks like it is mainly about little children in BB costumes. Was there more?
What do you think about our idea of having a Booper convention of our own? Or do you think we should coordinate it with this BB festival in Los Angeles?
I'm not sure just what other activities were going on at this festival, but I think that what we Boopers want is to meet each other and enjoy our BB hobby all together.

Please tell us what you think and please share with us what other activities happen at this BB festival....?

Thanks.

Hey that's a cool idea! I like the idea of it being a gallery. I really don't want to get into a competition thing with the other Boopers, want to keep things friendly and happy. I get into enough competition with the motorcycle shows and with my sales job...

Well, my idea was to find a place with reasonable airfare. Las Vegas is such a tourist town that there are many deals avilable for cheap flights. At least there were....
This will probably happen a year from now, so lots of time to save up for it.....

But if you can't make it, just keep posting! Boop-oop-a-doop!

Las Vegas is probably the best place to hold a convention because it offers a lot for tourists and has a great airport. I lived there for a few years and it just got too big for me but I love to visit there and attend conventions there!!! So count me in!!!

The best time of the year is spring or fall as it can be pretty hot in the summer and it's pretty windy and cold there in the winter.

So BikerBettyBoop... what month should we pick???? You are the expert....

Betty
10-09-2003, 08:45 PM
Hey Follow Boopers!!

I would have to agee with Las Vegas also. Now for a location??? Can we get a hold of the chamber of commerce or the tourist information center to see if they could find an inexpensive and somewhat large convention center. ANd if the prices are to much maybe Reno. Have we discussed what we are going to offer at this convention? A contest, personal items, vendors, shows?
And how are we going to promote this event? ANd has Michael said anything about MAYBE the Hearst Corp. sponoring the event? I 'm sorry for all the questions. I have never been to Las Vegas so it would be a great treat. Keep me posted.

Betty:P

livingbooper
10-10-2003, 03:07 AM
I'm still waiting for Michael to say something more myself....
I'm not sure how we would promote it.
I think we should hold it as a gathering for us. We should have a dinner, show off out BB apparel. Watch BB films. I'm not sure how big this will be. I'm not sure if it would be big enough for vendors... there has to be enough people to make it worth their while. Being a vendor myself for motorcycle products, I know how expensive it is to go to these events, and any vendor would need to expect a profit. That means lots of people. In Las Vegas there are lots of shows. We could all attend a Vegas show together, go on a tour of the Casinos...they are such a sight! The newer ones are gorgeous!
A contest of some sort would be fun!

Any ideas Boopers? Perhaps we could see who sounds the most like Betty Boop! Boop-oop-a-doop! (I do a pretty fair impression of her if I do say so myself! I also do Bart Simpson...)

I'm not sure I'd be able to afford to attend a convention, much as I'd like to, but with the upcoming wedding, my savings have to go elsewhere :-( Unless I just put the wedding off, and attend the convention instead!!

Lizzy - the wedding will be mine (if I don't put the funds to the convention - I would be worried if it was my daughter's 'cos she's only 12!!)

Having never visited the states I can't compare to the UK, but I can tell you Scotland is the most beautiful place I've ever seen - I've been through Glen Coe twice, and both times it took my breath away, so if you get the chance, go for it. Our Queen once said it was the most beautiful place on God's green earth. And by all accounts, Ireland is beautiful too.

Cheers Lizzy - have managed to talk my man round to accepting Betty as part of our life!! I may have even located some BB confetti for the tables at the reception. He's a bit of a romantic, so it's going to be a church wedding, with a reception at the local Hilton (funds permitting) - not that I'm complaining, of course!!!!!!!! My Hen Night is going to have a BB theme - I've told all my girlfriends they have to dress up.....

I'll have to look out for cheap flights once the convention is set - I'd hate to miss out on it.

And don't worry, all my friends are being subjected to BB at the moment, even at work, 'cos I have a new bag. purse, business card holder and phone cover. I think she makes the world a happier place; let's face it, if we could all get away with her attitude, we'd all go a long way!!

Hi Miriam.
Well, I am in the process of building my own website now. It sure is a lot of work!
I've got the home page done, and now I'm working on our online catalogue.

My fiance/partner signed up for it and provided me with the link, but I'm afarid that I've spaced it out right now... Doh!

Our web server has a relatively easy to use webbuilding program, so its not that hard for novices like me. But it's a little limiting. However, I am doing the best I can to make it look appealing and beautiful.

This guy's different from the others, so I am praying that it works out. I hope your relationship grows and evolves into something wonderful that lasts forever.

We plan to get married next year although we haven't set a date. We are not sure quite how big it is going to be, depends on the success of out new business and how much money we will have to spend. Well, Yankee may have been offensive about 200 years ago, but now it's just slang. We have a baseball team in New York called the New York Yankees. Actually, the term is hardly ever used anymore. I just thought it would be cute and different to use it. Instead of just "we Americans"...
I have noticed in these posts that you British Boopers (can we call you "Brits"?) you guys don't say so much that you are from England but you use the term UK most of the time. I've been a little curious about that. Do you prefer to think of yourselves more as the United Kingdom than England, or is UK just so much easier to type? Like Us typing USA?
I love to watch PBS, British tv shows and I love the various British accents. I love to watch specials on the royal family (as I was named after the Queen you know) and I am curious about the culture. I love the old architecture and when I go to Britain I must see the castles and palaces (if they have tours) and cathedrals. I only know about what I see in television, so I am very much in the dark on what the current modern British culture really is. I do know that it is much more than what is shown on t.v.
I felt a big loss at Diana's death and I mourned it for weeks. My persian cat died a few days after Diana and I got a new one, a kitten I named in Diana's honor, but I couldn't bring myself to call her that verbally and ended up calling her Kittonia.... I would really like to pay my respects...

Does it sound like I want an excuse to go? You betcha!
Now I just need to get out of debt and gat the money together...
But I will make it!

Hi there!
BBooper had wanted to start a picture gallery of photos of some of our BB motorcycles. A few of us ride and ave talked about our motorcycles and are really crazy about Biker Betty Boop. She is our favorite. And BBooper wanted all of our pictures in one place, which sounded like a great idea. She has created a thread called "Bikers R Us" and two of us have shared our pics there.

However, your idea of a picture gallery for our BB treasures is a cool one too! I noticed that you started a new thread when I checked things out in the listing index. This looks like a very fun idea. Some of us have posted pictures already in various threads, but it would be cool to have one place for it.

I need to get ready for work now, but I'll post a couple there when I have a day off.

All you other Boopers...check it out!

It's interesting to read all the suggestions for the Betty Boop convention. I'm enjoying reading everyone's ideas. One thing is for sure, it will be fun!!!

As I posted earlier... if Las Vegas is to be the place for the American convention then the best months are early spring and late fall. Remember Las Vegas is very hot and very dry.

And all those lights and all that concrete make it even hotter both during the day and at night.

But it's still a fun place to visit.

Hehe...yeah sounds like you really want to come and visit us! And we'd love to have you! There are lots of beautiful castles and cathedrals to visit. They do tours of Winsor Castle and Warwick Castle although I've never been myself. And of course you can go and see Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guards. I suppose I take these things for granted as Ive watched the guards so many times since I was little. Sight seeing in London is always fun, and if the weather is good you can go on an open top tour bus. I'm presuming London would be where you would want to go. Although you should also go to Stratford Upon Avon which is near where I live, and see Shakesperes birthplace. Stratford is really pretty and there's lots of things to see. Look at me trying to sell us to you when you're quite clearly already there! Hehe!

We all mourned for Princess Diana. I went to Birmingham Catherdral and added to the thousands of flowers already there. It was so amazing to see so many people there at the same time, and this was quite some weeks after she died. I hadn't really considered myself a great Diana admirer, but it was just so unexpected. I just wish the media would leave her alone now. They still insist on making programmes about her which isn't fair on her sons.

Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway, I digress! This thread is kinda changin its point now! But in answer to your question, I put UK cos its quicker. There are so many names fo it (Great Britain,UK,England) I get a bit confused myself to be honest!

Hope you can make it over to us Lizzy. We'd love to have you!

Thanks Becky! If our business becomes successful, I'm there!

You're by Stratford upon Avon? I love Shakespeare! It would have to be a must for me to visit there! You better believe it I will go that place to visit! I took a Shakespeare class in Junior College 3 times because I loved it so much. The teacher covered different plays each time. One of the courses was a summer course which was a field trip to Ashland Oregon to attend the Shakespeare Festival they have every year. I really enjoyed it, met some of the actors. So if you live near there, perhaps you could show me around to some of your favorite pubs??? That would be so much fun!

One last note about Diana. I always admired her because of her beauty and grace, her humanity and inner strength, her polish on one hand and her down-to-earth concerns on the other. I was crushed when we lost her. I went to San Francisco with my sister to a place, I think it was the British embassy, where they had set up a memorial. We left left flowers and a card, signed the guest book, and read a lot of the writings left by others. I felt better after that somehow.....

Anyway, now you have really got my interest peaked!
Well, I know I will make it....someday!

Good - I'm glad you're more interested now! I live about half an hour away from Stratford so I drive there all the time. There is this really cute old fashioned sweet shop there and they have hundreds of different kinds of sweets all in jars. Then they weigh them out for you - its just like a 'ye olde englande' type shop (if you know what I mean by that). I sometimes just go to Stratford for that shop to buy rainbow crystals!
I really hope you can make it soon. I think you'd really like it!

I hope I can too!:)
Just hold a good thought for me that the business will take off and I can pay off all my credit cards!!!!!!:P
Now that I have a few friends over there, I really want to go to England now! And Scotland as well...

Well, right now it's just a dream....
But who knows...anything can happen! Maybe I'll win the lottery!
If I do, I'll be able to take some friends!

Well.... a girl can dream, can't she?

Don't forget all of us when you win the lottery!!! When you hit the multi-million $$ lottery, I'd like to borrow a million or two!

Sounds like an invitation! O.k. If we make it to the UK we'll take you up on that! Should we bring an air mattress?
Of course, we all need the Betty Boop PJs!
Hahahaha!

Hey the lottery here in CA is up to 80 million I think, and I keep contributing to the office pool. If we win I see a trip to England in my future... and perhaps I could be acompanied by a friend or two.... Hmmm?

Keep your fingers crossed! The next lottery is on Wednesday!!!!

I can just imagine my housemate walking in and finding a load of American strangers in Betty Boop pyjamas sprawled accross the floor! I think she may be a little confused!! hehe!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

That's going to be one of my goals for 2004!!!

Yes, I think we can do it! It'll be one of mine as well.

And no... we didn't win the jackpot....:( (sniff!)

But the next time there's a big one, you know I'll play again.... and then we can have our slumber party in England!!!!:D

That is, of course, if Becky is still open to being our hostess...;)

After my immediate projects are completed, let's work on this in earnest!;)

The offer of a pyjama party is definitely still open - it'll be fun! I guessed that you obviously hadn't won the lottery! Either that or you were keeping it a secret until you could surprise us by paying for us all go to Las Vegas for the convention! Ha ha! Maybe not...!

Love Becky xx

O.k. Boopers!
Let's start discussing the convention idea again!!! We have less than a year now if we are to hold it next fall.
I think that we all agree that Las Vegas is the location, right?????
It's a very fun place and I think that Betty would agree...
We need to get the word out though... the more people the merrier and the more successful it will be.
I have finally finished my website for my business (that I am starting with my fiance) and have indulged myself with a Betty Boop button so I have my own little Betty Boop site on the web. In it I have mentioned the convention idea and I'm hoping to reach more people. I have made it so that if someone clicks onto one of the Betty Boop pictures they are automatically brought here. I am hoping to bring in more Betty Boop fans that way.

Check out my website at www.dragonscustomizing.com . Even if you don't want to look at my store (full of animated dragons) I think it might be fun for you to check out my Betty Boop corner. I have even created a special email address just so that people can contact me about the convention. I also visit other forums and I'm mentioning my website and my Betty Boop Corner...

Soooo... anything's possible if you put your mind to it! let's do it!!!

Well, I'm working on Las Vegas this go around. If it is successful maybe we could hold the next one in the UK. Then perhaps European Boopers could attend.;)

Well I certainly hope we can pull it together for Las Vegas... that is probably the most practical place for Americans... and hopefully some of our British friends can make it too.

I hope so. I hope that my website will help. Do you have a way of promoting it on yours, Theresa? We are still learning how to make best use of the search engines, and I modified mine AGAIN to make it easier to find stuff. This is my first website and I am still learning, of course!
We need to get the word out. There are many many fans of Betty Boop out there who don't know about us and may be interested in a convention.

I'm sure there will be pleanty of people interested! Oooh, brain wave.......if you have a look at the members section of this forum, you can see that there are so many people who have joined the forum who haven't come back. I wonder if we mgchan would be able to send out emails to these people letting them know about the plan for a convention. He must have a record of the email addresses. These people are obviously betty fans to have come here in the first place. But it may be regarded as spam so mgchan may not be too keen on sending it out to them.

Hmmm.....just a thought....what do you think? xx

Sorry I can't promote anything on our website....just don't have the capability. But once the word gets out that will probably be good enough..

I don't know if Michael will send emails because it could be considered spam?

livingbooper
11-27-2003, 12:24 AM
Hmmm... I don't know how spamming works, what is considered spam, how the rules work regrding it. Any email from us would be unsolicited.... Maybe spam is like weeds... a weed is a plant that you don't want, whether it's a plant deliberately cultivated by others or not.... like ivy can be there because you want to grow it, or if it's there and you don't want it it is a weed....

Well, I think that we just need to keep talking about it here at least. This will keep the thread up towards the top and this will allow more visitors to see it....

What a creative way to get your point across Lizzy! Weeds and plants...hmm I like it! I'm not really sure how spam works either. Surely though, if people have signed up to a website, giving their email address, it must then give the website some sort of right to contact them. It's like here at work, we were told by this marketing guy that if someone as phoned up and asked for us to send them a brochure about our service, we are then well within our rights to give them a follow up phone call. Hmmmm....I wonder. There was no box or anything saying 'I do not wish to receive newsletters or mail' when we signed up to this forum. Maybe MGCHAN could shed some light?

Bikerbettyboop

SPAM is all unwanted and unsolicited email... I think if it's a wanted message then it's considered a newsletter?
