Forgive me if this has already been posted, I looked but didn't see anything about it...
Does anyone know when there will be a definative set of Betty's cartoons on DVD? I know this past summer the Popeye cartoons were released (there was one with Betty making a cameo!), but I would love to see all of Betty's-from her early years as a dog til her adventures with Grampy nad Poochie.
Anyone know when there might be possible release dates?
Thank you in advance!!:D

Unfortunately it doesn't look like an official Betty dvd set will happen anytime soon. Lion's Gate Entertainment own the copyright, which they recently bought from Republic Films, to all the Fleischer cartoons except for the Popeye and Superman cartoons. Popeye and Superman cartoons copyrights are owned by Warner Bros, which is why they can be found on dvd. Lions Gate has no interest in releasing the Betty cartoons to dvd at this stage.
In 1996 there was all the Betty Boop cartoons with the exception of 'Popeye the Sailor' and the four lost cartoons, were released on video. Many of the cartoons that have fallen into public domain can be found on dvd.

I assume you are talking about the 8 VHS tape set, Betty Boop: The Definitive Collection. don't know what they go for now, since they are out of production. I bought mine new, when they came out, and considered it well worth the money. It is not complete, but it as complete as we are ever likely to see. I have been transferring mine to DVD, and putting them in chronological order, by release date, and adding in a few missing ones I obtained elsewhere.
The tapes look good, the prints are in good shape, and the audio is good. I suspect these are the same transfers that I have seen elsewhere, like on Laser Disc. These transfers cut off some of the edges of the frame. But, there are no better transfers that I know of, available to buy. But, buying used VHS tapes, find out if they are in good condition, or can be returned if they aren't.

So I assume they haven't applied macrovision like Disney to prevent a transfer to DVD. It sounds like you have done a lot of work transferring these chronologically. Since they are public domain now, I would like to speak to you via email so that I could obtain a copy of your work. If you have paypal...
Let me know. Thanks.

Nope, no macrovision on the Definitive Collection tapes. I estimate it took me about 25 hours to get all 119 on DVDs, with menus that have titles, thumbnails, and release dates.
As almost all Fleischer cartoons are now in the public domain, I just might be able to legally sell them. I would have to look into that. I do have a possible source for the 8 cartoons with Betty that still exist. If I get them, I will redo my chronological collection to include them. When that pans out, or doesn't, I'll decide if I want to sell a few to friends, and a few interested parties, but I won't be doing anything even semi-commercial.
If you like, you can post your e-mail address here for a short amount of time, and I'll post to tell you I've gotten it, so you can delete it. If you can't delete (I don't seem to be able to edit, once I post,) you might put some symbol between each character, to make it invisible to spambots. Just explain what you did in the body of the e-mail, if you do that. I get e-mail notices when there is a reply to this thread, but I only have a computer at work. I am usually able to check my e-mail, and this site, from 8pm to 4am, EST, Saturday through Tuesday (Wed. am). Wish they allowed PMs here! So, post your address, and I'll e-mail you. I can send you my BB filmography, to start... no charge. :)

Hi Kokolossal!
You would definitely save me the headaches of buying the tapes and a conversion card (I've never converted vhs tapes before so I'm quite green lol). Would love to chat with you via email. Please reach me at nppublic "at" yahoo dot com. Thanks again!

can someone list all the cartoons in the collection?

If you mean all cartoons in the 8 VHS tape set Betty Boop: The Definitive Collection, go to the "General" forum, click on the "History" sub-forum, and then select the "Filmography" thread. The list there is very close to what is on the BB:TDC set. Mgchan has omitted one toon, (probably inadvertently) I don't recall which at the moment, but will look it up, and post that one later.
The "Filmography" does list 5 toons that are not on BB:TDC. Those are, in 1938, Honest Love and True, The Lost Kitten, Buzzy Boop, Buzzy Boop At The Concert, and in 1939, Yip, Yip, Yippy. YYY is not really a Boop, cause she's not in it.
I e-mailed [b]MY[/i] BB filmography to to BoopsterFanboy. If he would like to post it, I would be grateful. I'm afraid my computer skills are so minimal that I don't know how, short of typing the whole thing in. Mine includes another 7 or 8 Boops.
