Mom's Bettyboop

Dear BoopMan and othes;
I recently obtained my Mom's Betty boop doll. She has a hard head that sits on a wooden base. Her head turns freely. Her head is painted and is cracked and the paint is about half flacked off. Hair is painted black, face is a flesh tone, eyes black and mouth is red. Under the paint the material is white. Her body and arms are a deep red satin material and both are stuffed. From her waist down she is a deep red satin bag that zips with a metal zipper in the back. This "gown" has three small red satin ribbons sewn across it. At her waist she has another larger red satin ribbon that ties in a bow in the back. also on her back is a red velvet ribbon attached from her waist to the top of her collar on her dress. Perhaps used as a handle and maybe this was a purse. On one arm she has a wolven red band attached at her wrist. Her other arm is attached to her "gown" with a few stiches at her thumb. On the front of her is a label that reads as follows:

Paramount
STAR
"BETTY-BOOP"
Des & Copyright
by Fleischer
Studios
CAMEO DOLL CO.
NEW YORK M'FR
From Betty-boop to studios is in a red heart outline.
My Mom died last Sept. and I know she had her but when in her growing up years she got her I don't know. I need to know how to take care of her, if I should have her restored and by whom, was she a purse or what, and if she has any value. Anyhelp out there would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Cheryl

Wow!! What are rarity. I certainly would like to see some pictures, esp of the tags, bands, etc, the incidental things. This is the 1930s Silk Purse Doll. This very unique doll was made by Cameo Doll Company (Kallus); the head is identical to those used on the composition dolls. The body, however, is a zippered purse, made from a brown-gold silk material. The arms and torso are stuffed, while the ‘dress’ opens at the bottom for use as a purse.
Depending on the condition, this doll could bring $2,000 - $5,000.
I've attached a picture.

-Leonard

p.s. as far a care, in a safe, dry place. Yes, I would have her restored, but only from a reputable restorer.

Dear Boopman, Bikerbettyboop, and Sally boop,
Thank you all for your thoughts and insights. I will be taking a picture soon of Mom's purse doll and then scan it to you. Again she is in need of some facial repairs but do you have any suggestions. We live in western Michigan and also travel to Massachuetts quite often. Any recommendations for restorers in either area?
Thanks so very much!
Cheryl

Cheryl, I am looking forward to seeing the doll purse. I know it must be lovely. I'm sorry that I'm not going to be able to refer you to anyone but perhaps Boopman knows of someone who can help you with your restoration project. Good luck!! Looking forward to seeing the picture soon!
