I have put some thought in how I would be commenting on this. At first I was indignant, as I'm sure everyone here is. But the more I think about it, the more this issue runs deep....

I agree with MGCHAN, the woman must have issues.

I'm wondering, how did the topic of Betty Boop come up?

This is a school teacher and I think that it is absolutely wrong for her to bring her own personal issues to her class like that. I question her competance as a teacher. For one thing, I think that it's absolutely inappropriate for a teacher to label national icons like Betty Boop, or famous real women for that matter, as whores. This kind of talk should not be occurring in a classroom with children. The other issue is that she obvioulsy has her facts wrong and knows nothing of the history of Betty Boop. Because of this she should not have made any comment at all. She what she said on her own issues and biases without researching the facts. This sort of commentary has no place in a classroom.

Because of these things I question her competancy as a teacher. If this were a teacher of a child of mine I would march right down to the principal's office and make a complaint. The classroom should be treated as a place of knowlege and education, and if a teacher's personal issues are aired in it then the classroom turns into a personal soapbox. Because of the ignorant commentary about Betty Boop I wonder what other things this teacher is bringing into the classrom that should be left at home? And I wonder what other mis-information is being fed to her students? Does this teacher get her other historical facts wrong as well???

Someone200, have you spoken to your parents yet? If you haven't told them yet you really ought to. If you were my daughter I would pull you out of that classroom and insist on a new teacher. This teacher should at least be reprimanded.

Betty Boop is loved by millions of fans around the world. She is spunky, smart, intelligent, and independent, as well as being stylish, graceful, and beautiful. Many of us are moral Christians and would not dare think of loving a charecter who was the least bit smutty and immoral.

Well, these are my opinions. Good luck with dealing with this narrow-minded teacher....

I still wonder... have you talked to your parents about this teacher? All of these things would indicate that she is not a very good role model... and I still question her qualifications to teach. Talk to your mom at least.

Betty started out as a cute independent woman with a dog. She never acted sleazy. Male charecters liked to flirt with her but she always kept them in line. She was sexy, but she was also innocent. She went on adventures. There was often a moral to the story if you ever watch the cartoons. Obviously the people who call her names have no idea what she is about and have never watched her.
