Whew what a mess!
Parts of Canada and the East Coast of the US just experienced one of the worst blackouts ever.
There are many areas still without electrical power.
Working in NYC and having to get home was an ordeal. I left work at 4:20pm, yesterday (8/14), and got home around 11:30pm. Fortunately the power came on at home last night around 10:30pm.
Any other members living in areas that were affected by the blackout? Where were you or what were you doing when the power went out?

i live in NY too. i was coming home from the beach w/ my mom when we noticed a traffic light out. then one of our radio stations (94.3) wasn't working. we turned on 106.1 BLI and they said there was no power as for as CHICAGO!!!!! so later that nite my house was full with candles and we played a board game (Harry Potter Diagon Alley) Our power went on at 10:30pm too. i thought it was cool with all power gone.
;) :D ;) :D ;)

We are having some stress here in Arizona too. A gasoline pipeline broke between Tucson and Phoenix and now we can't get gas to the service stations. Gas prices have skyrocketed overnight and there are long lines and limited gas.... help!! I hope they get it fixed very soon!!!

I think the biggest disaster that has happened to me recently was when I couldn't figure out where I sat my glasses. We don't get earth quakes, volcanos or any natural disasters in Tasmania except for our old growth forests being logged.

My son likes it, I was talking to him about Tornadoes the other day, I had to explain that they can make a big mess told him we would have to rent the movie Twister. The one thing that made him laugh was that Tornadoes can move and pick up houses and cows!!
Silly boy, but we do not have those things out here..

The movie Twister has some scenes that were actually filmed here in my home town.
There in the movie when they are in the dinner getting something to eat is not really a dinner here. It is a bar and after the movie they renamed the bar to Twister.
We couldn't go anywhere near the set the whole time they were here filming. It was rathing annoying not being able to go to some parts of town.

oooh... I don't think I could handle tornadoes either... earthquakes in California were bad enough but hurricanes and tornadoes have to be worse because they occur more often than earthquakes do.

yeah. Belize has been washed out before. 1963 was one of the worst hurricanes in history.

We had a huge tornadoe here in 1999. Some may have heard about it. It was the largest a tornado can get. I was coming home from work about the time it hit and I passed right infront of it and ran like crazy to my brother's cellar!!

Wow BBFan that sounds soooooo scarey... I'm thankful to hear that you weren't injured.
When I was a teenager, we were driving on the Will Rogers Turnpike on our way from California to Ohio and we had to stop and wait for a tornado to pass in front of us.. it was sure frightening and left an impression on me!

Speaking of tornados!
I was coming back from taking my daughter to the eye doctor on Wednesday and I got caught in a huge storm!!
Here it is November and we have been having pretty mild weather, not really cold. It started raining on us and then it got really dark. Hail started pounding my car and I am trying to drive down the interstate. And how nice, a lovely tornado is trying to touch down! I was a nervous wreck!! I live about 60 miles from her doctors office so it was a loooong ride home. My girls slept through the whole thing!!!

We had a bad storm here in northern Arizona yesterday... it snowed and rained hard enough to close down the airport and highways too. But today the sun is shining and all the snow is gone!

We had a cool front move in today. It brought some heavy storms this morning. They came in about the time I was trying to get my daughter to school!
We are suppose to have a chance of snow tomorrow!!
Don't really like the snow. It is pretty but I hate getting out and driving in it. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_4_6.gif' border=0></a>

I think it's so neat that you live in the rural of Ok. Away from the usual hum-drum of inner-city life. 60 miles away from the doctor??
You're a good ways out.
So you shop heavy and keep stocked...huh?
THe fresh smell of non-chemicals in the air.

It is nice to live where we do.
The only "con", takes awhile to go someplace.
We do have a Wal-Mart about 15 miles away but it is a little one. Old too!
We go grocery shopping in the city about once a month. Get what we need and keep stocked. If we need little things, like sugar, milk, etc... we just get it at our little store here in town. It is little!!!
My husband actually works in the city so he drives about 130 miles round trip everyday to work!!
It is home!!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/208.gif' border=0></a>
