I was trying to ask Leonard Ellis the value of an item that I have.
I have a wooden Betty Boop clock. It is wooden hand-painted clock that is a blonde Betty Boop. Clock is marked Made in Occupied Japan and has moving eyes with a black clock face. The clock was made by Tezuka Clock Co., LTD.
The house I live in was my deceased fathers that I grew up in and he built in 1953 when he got back from the Korean War. He may have bought it in Japan. I was wondering what it was worth.

WOW! Yes, indeed, this is one of rarer Betty Boop items. I would guess there are less than 20 still around. From the 1930s, it is similar to a cuckoo clock. Betty is wearing a red dress, black shoes and has strawberry-blond hair. Betty’s right arm wraps around the clock face, and she is in what looks like an awkward half-sitting position. The pendulum extends below her legs. Clock face numbers are Roman numerals; face is marked “Tezuka Clock Co. Ltd.” near center, “Made In Japan” at bottom.
Since I've never actually seen one sold, it's hard to put a real value on it, but I would say $3,000-$6,000 if it were put up for sale, depending, of course, on the overall condition and completeness.

That is what I have.
What would be the best way to sell it?

I would say eBay if you want to sell it on line.. it's a beautiful clock and one which would be a wonderful addition to anyone's collection!!

Occupied Japan was made from 1945-1952, following the end of WWII. Florence Archambeau has written some books on Occupied Japan. She says she paid $350 for her clock but has seen them priced as high as $1400 (has not seen them sell that high). I think Leonard's estimate is high for Occupied Japan, but as a Betty Boop collectible value could be different.

I have a friend who has 3 owl clocks and a baseball player clock from the same period. Owl clocks generally sell in the $100-150 range, the baseball player she paid $200 for. I suspect Betty Boop is the highest priced style of clock.

Hello,

I am new to the group. Just wanted to let group members know that I am starting to restore a Betty Boop Clock. It was made in the 40's by Tezuka. A member named dlapenox posted a message and 3 picture about a year ago.

I have been restring clocks for about 30 years. As the restoration continues I will post more information. I will try to post a few pictures.

The clock is about 12 1/2 inches high. It has 1 weight and pendulum that runs the clock and moves her LARGE EYES as the pendulum swings back and forth.

IF ANY OTHER MEMBER HAS ONE OF THESE CLOCKS LET ME KNOW. I WOULD LIKE TO EXCHANGE PICTURES AND INFORMATION.

regards, LaMar
