HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Anna Nicole Smith, the pneumatic blonde whose life played out as an extraordinary tabloid tale — Playboy centerfold, jeans model, bride of an octogenarian oil tycoon, reality-show subject, tragic mother — died Thursday after collapsing at a hotel. She was 39.
She was stricken while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and was rushed to a hospital. Edwina Johnson, chief investigator for the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office, said the cause of death was under investigation and an autopsy would be done on Friday.
Just five months ago, Smith's 20-year-old son, Daniel, died suddenly in the Bahamas in what was believed to be drug-related.
Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger said a private nurse called 911 after finding Smith unresponsive in her sixth-floor room at the hotel, which is on an Indian reservation. He said Smith's bodyguard administered CPR, but she was declared dead at a hospital.
Through the '90s and into the new century, Smith was famous for being famous, a pop-culture punchline because of her up-and-down weight, her Marilyn Monroe looks, her exaggerated curves, her little-girl voice, her ditzy-blonde persona, and her over-the-top revealing outfits.
Recently, she lost a reported 69 pounds and became a spokeswoman for TrimSpa, a weight-loss supplement. On her reality show and other recent TV appearances, her speech was often slurred and she seemed out of it. Some critics said she seemed drugged-out.
"Undoubtedly it will be found at the end of the day that drugs featured in her death as they did in the death of poor Daniel," said a former attorney for Smith in the Bahamas, Michael Scott.
Another former Smith attorney, Lenard Leeds, told the celebrity gossip Web site TMZ that Smith "always had problems with her weight going up and down, and there's no question she used alcohol." Leeds said it was no secret that "she had a very troubled life" and had "so many, many problems."
"She wanted to be like Marilyn her whole life and ironically died in a similar manner," Leeds said. Monroe died of a drug overdose at age 36 in 1962.
Smith attorney Ron Rale told The Associated Press that he had talked to her on Tuesday or Wednesday, and she had flu symptoms and a fever and was still grieving over her son.
"Poor Anna Nicole," he said. "She's been the underdog. She's been besieged ... and she's been trying her best and nobody should have to endure what she's endured."
The Texas-born Smith was a topless dancer at strip club before she entered her photos in a search contest and made the cover of Playboy magazine in 1992. She became Playboy's playmate of the year in 1993. She was also signed to a contract with Guess jeans, appearing in TV commercials, billboards and magazine ads.
In 1994, she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, owner of Great Northern Oil Co. In 1992, Forbes magazine estimated his wealth at $550 million.
In a 2005 interview with ABC, Smith recalled meeting Marshall at what she called a "gentleman's club' in Houston. "He had no will to live and I went over to see him," she said. "He got a little twinkle in his eyes, and he asked me to dance for him. And I did."
Marshall died in 1995 at age 90, setting off a feud with Smith's former stepson, E. Pierce Marshall, over his estate. A federal court in California awarded Smith $474 million. That was later overturned. But in May, the U.S. Supreme Court revived her case, ruling that she deserved another day in court.
The stepson died June 20 at age 67. But the family said the court fight would continue.
Smith starred in her own reality TV series, "The Anna Nicole Show," in 2002-04. Cameras followed her around as she sparred with her lawyer, hung out with her personal assistant and interior decorator, and cooed at her poodle, Sugar Pie. She also appeared in movies, performing a bit part in "The Hud****er Proxy" in 1994.
After news came of Smith's death, G. Eric Brunstad Jr., the lawyer who represented Marshall, said in a statement: "We're very shocked by the news and extend the deepest condolences to her family."
In a statement, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner said: "I am very saddened to learn about Anna Nicole's passing. She was a dear friend who meant a great deal to the Playboy family and to me personally."
Smith's son died Sept. 10 in his mother's hospital room in the Bahamas, just days after she gave birth to a daughter.
An American medical examiner hired by the family, Cyril Wecht, said he died accidentally of a combination of methadone and two antidepressants. Last month, a Bahamas magistrate scheduled a formal inquiry into the death for March 27.
Meanwhile, the paternity of Smith's now 5-month-old daughter remained a matter of dispute. The birth certificate lists Dannielynn's father as attorney Howard K. Stern, Smith's most recent companion. Smith's ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead was waging a legal challenge, saying he was the father.
Debra Opri, the attorney who filed his paternity suit, said Birkhead "is devastated. He is inconsolable, and we are taking steps now to protect the DNA testing of the child. The child is our No. 1 priority."
Smith was born Vickie Lynn Hogan on Nov. 28, 1967, in Houston, one of six children. Her parents split up when she was a toddler, and she was raised by her mother, a deputy sheriff.
She dropped out after 11th grade after she was expelled for fighting, and worked as a waitress and then a cook at Jim's Krispy Fried Chicken restaurant in Mexia.
She married 16-year-old fry cook Bill Smith in 1985, giving birth to Daniel before divorcing two years later.

You could be right. No body knows what on in that room except her and if there was someone else in there with her. It's to bad her daughter is going to grow up with out a mother. Hopefuylly the father (who ever it turns out to be) will keep the child out of the media. Then maybe that child will have half a chance at growing being happy and full of life.

Being a mother is the most important thing in my life, I couldn't imagine leaving one of my children without the love and care of a Mother. She really looked so happy with her baby girl, I hope she found peace, and I agree about keeping the baby out of the spotlight. She needs a chance for a happy life.

I was watching Entertainment tonight and one of Anna's close friends said that she might have commited suicide to to the fact that she was still in morning of her sons death! However I don't believe that she would do that with her beautiful little baby girl and a planned wedding coming up so soon! Has anyone found out more on the actual results of her death?

I think they did the optopsy already and guess what else SAO PAULO (Reuters) - A 66-year-old Brazilian man wrestled with a 15-foot (5-metre) anaconda for nearly half an hour to free his grandson from the snake's crushing death grip, local media reported on Friday.
Matheus Pereira de Araujo, 8, would likely be dead inside the belly of the 80 pound (35 kg) anaconda if his grandfather had not heard his screams for help, zoologists said.
Anacondas, the biggest snakes in the world, live in swamps and rivers. They kill prey by asphyxiation or drowning.

What's sad to me are the people who are killed doing their jobs... like police officers and folks working the night shift in convenience stores... that's sad.
I know this probably sounds a bit cynical but I'm not terribly saddened by Anna's passing... she chose to live her life the way she did and if it resulted in her death, then that is a tragedy. What made me sad was hearing that her son died so young and wasn't drugs involved in his death?

Yes, unfortunately. It kind of makes you wonder that fame isn't all it's cracked up to be. Some people want it so bad and it winds up being their demise....

no truer words were ever spoken Lizzy... I feel the same way. Some people will go after that elusive "fame" at any and all cost. They don't care if it hurts family, friends or anyone in their pursuit of "glory"... that's sad.... because life is just too short and I guess Anna Nicole may actually have given us an unintentional good lesson in life! I remember seeing her on her reality tv show and I was pretty turned off by her. I guess some people thought of her as a Marilyn Monroe look alike.. the way I look at it.. Marilyn Monroe was a real movie star whereas Anna just grabbed at fame no matter what the cost. She sometimes acted like a real slob on her reality show.. but that's just my opinion... I think her weight loss was really due to cosmetic surgery ... maybe it just all caught up with her... the media sure jumped on the bandwagon and is really trying to make it headline news!
I'm more concerned with the state of our country and the war in Iraq and what's happening with my family than I am with the news about Anna Nicole.
Personally, I am hopeful that her baby is privately adopted and that she won't have to grow up with the spectacle that is sure to follow her everywhere through out her life!!

I feel for the poor baby girl in all of this. It seems everyone is fighting over that poor innocent baby because they believe she will inherit all of Anna's money. So sad......
Unless she is adopted out by an "unfamous" family, the poor baby will never have a "normal" life. She will always have camera's in her face. A very sad situation.

Men are lining up to claim they are the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby. But they could be mistaken if they think paternity will automatically mean a pot of gold.
Instead, they could be stepping into a monumentally complex, multinational legal fight over the child. Moreover, it is not at all clear whether the little girl is a million-dollar baby, as some seem to think.
For all anyone knows, the voluptuous former centerfold, who died at age 39, may have set up a trust or employed some other means of keeping the father of her baby from getting his hands on her inheritance.
Like BBfan...I feel sorry for the innocent baby.

ooopps sry low and biker here...:eek:HUDSON OAKS, Texas (AP) – A young mother who might have been depressed apparently hanged three of her small daughters and herself in a closet using pieces of clothing and sashes, authorities said Tuesday.
A fourth child, an 8-month-old daughter, also was found dangling in the closet but was rescued from the family’s mobile home.
“It’s horrendous,” Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said. “That’s all I can say.”
The woman was identified as Gilberta Estrada, 25. The infant, Evelyn Frayre, was in good condition at a hospital, Fowler said. Authorities did not immediately identify the other children, but Fowler said they apparently were ages 5, 3 and 2.
Filly Echeverria, who said she was the children’s godmother, identified the dead girls as Maria Teresa Estrada, Janet Frayre and Magaly Frayre.
After Estrada failed to show up for work, her sister, who lived nearby, forced her way into the locked residence in the Oak Hills mobile home park, about 25 miles west of Fort Worth in this rural community of 1,600 people.
The sheriff said the sister rescued the infant when she realized the baby girl was still alive.
The sheriff said the hangings appeared to be murder-suicide because the trailer’s doors were locked from the inside and a relative said the woman had been depressed.
The young mother and her girls were last seen alive Monday evening, he said.
The sheriff said Estrada had won a temporary restraining order in August 2006 against Gregorio Frayre Rodriguez, who was believed to be the father of the infant and some of the other children, after an attack on Estrada.
The sheriff said the couple had stopped living together in February. Tuesday was the first emergency police call to Estrada’s trailer, and authorities said there was no evidence that Frayre abused the girls.
A telephone listing for Frayre, 38, could not immediately be located.
“I just got a big kick out of watching the kids play over there on her porch, and today it’s sad, very sad,” neighbor Joyce Harris said as other trailer park residents milled about on their porches.
Some cried and talked softly about the deaths.
Estrada’s trailer was dilapidated, with paint peeling off the brown and white mobile home. Cactus plants and a rose bush decorated the front. Toys and a bicycle littered the back yard.
Texas has seen a number of child killings by mothers in recent years.
Less than five years earlier, another Hudson Oaks family was torn apart when Dee Etta Perez, 39, shot her three children, ages 4, 9 and 10, before killing herself.
Andrea Yates drowned her five children in the family’s Houston bathtub in 2001. In 2003, Deanna Laney beat her two young sons to death with stones in East Texas, and Lisa Ann Diaz drowned her daughters in a Plano bathtub. Dena Schlosser fatally severed her 10-month-old daughter’s arms with a kitchen knife in 2004.
All four of those women were found innocent by reason of insanity. Yates initially was convicted of capital murder, but that verdict was overturned on appeal.
Its preety weird that some of the mothers in that area would kill their children i think the one about the baby with its arms choped off is he sadest!:eek:they arent depressed they are crazy...
