Looking for me?!?! Still here!

The last two weeks have been very hectic for me. One project in the works is Popeye's website which is slated for November 2003.

Since this past Friday, I didn't get an opportunity to check the forums. On Saturday, I took my daughter, who's now 7 3/4 yrs old, cherry picking. We ended up with 18 lbs of cherries... and that's not counting how many pounds we stuffed ourselves with!!! :P :P :P

Cherry picking sounds like it had to be so much fun and what did you do with 18lbs of cherries? Did your wife freeze them or can them or just make a lot of pies???? You are so lucky!

I'm sorry, I'd forgotten to answer this post! My sincerest apologies!!!

Unfortunately, cherry picking season is over. Here's the link to the place I'd gone to:

http://www.prospecthillorchards.com/

From Brooklyn, it's about 1-1/2 to 2 hours' drive.

If you're interested in picking pumpkins and cutting your own tree for Christmas, I'll post a link to the places.

Now they're just sticks with a few leaves on them! :(

Valerie

you found deers more greedy than you MG!!!!!!!! hihihihi i give you an advice for your trees just spread some dog's hair around the trees and the deers won't cme any more because they smell the dogs and think they here to chase them, that's what a man did for their trees as he was living near a wood!

I have 2 cherry trees. The black cherry produces, but the bing cherry just gives a couple of cherries. The problem is that the birds love my cherries and only leave me with a few. They all ripen at the same time too. So for a short period of time, one, two weeks max I am in heaven and I graze off the trees. But it's too short-lived...(sigh)

Now you've made me really envious! :(

You can put netting over the trees. That's what I did, but that didn't stop the deers!

livingbooper
08-12-2003, 11:47 AM
Yeah, I know about netting...but I'm too lazy! One year I tried this special tape that you tie into the trees that is supposed to scare away the birds. It's metallic looking, silver on one side, red on the other. It's supposed to look like flames to the birds. I think that they just laughed at me that year.....

Valerie

guess what i use to scare birds froom my fruit trees ??????????????????
old CDmusic or CDROM adverts we don't use, they reflect light and scare little greedy birds and it works!!!!!!!!!!

livingbooper
08-12-2003, 08:06 PM
Really???? Did you hang them like ornaments?

Valerie
08-13-2003, 08:00 AM
yes i hang them with a string on the branches and as they turns they catch the light and shine and scare bird!

I know, time is flying!
Big Lots not only has the fall stuff up, but is already stocked with Christmas merchandise. And it's the middle of August!!!!
Geez! They start earlier and earlier every year!

I hate that the time is going so fast for me, but I'm glad that it's going fast for you!

you're right everything goes earlier and earlier every year : end of july you get school furniture, end of september you get toys for christmas, the problem is that if you don't buy at that moment you don't have a thing left at the real moment for buying i mean winter for christmas toys and if you buy too early, they put new stuff in november so that kids ask for more and you've already buy the stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's something it's hard to put up with!!!!!!!!
if we go on like that we'll soon go to the seaside in winter and go skiing in summer LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

livingbooper

Yes, I know! It seems to get worse every year.
The hardest thing right now is the clothes shopping. The department stores are all having their pre-season sales and the selection for winter is at its best. But I can't possible think about putting on woolens, sweaters, and jackets in this heat wave!!!!!! Can you? I usually wait until I need the stuff when its colder, and of course the selection is not like it is now.

Well, before you know it, it will be autumn and time for pumpkins!

Take care!

I have a small orchard planted here at our house. We have 4 cherry trees, along with peach, nectarine, pear and a few apples too. Nothing is producing yet because they are all less than 3 years old. But someday I hope to have a nice producing orchard!

I have planted pumpkins in the past but didn't this year... they are always eaten by the rabbits and antelope and deer.. and gophers.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of gophers. I've tried traps, flooding their burrows and gas... nothing has worked!

Hey Mike, I checked out Prospect Hill Orchards on line and what a cool place. Looks like apples will be ready for picking next month... guess everyone agrees that time is flying... first comes school, then comes fall, then Christmas holidays will be upon us.

I don't have gophers where I live, but I think they're all over the U.S. They are furry little brown animals that burrow (sp?) into the ground and live there. They dig holes and pop up in gardens to munch you veggies!

mgchan

They're also called Woodchucks. They eat until they get big and fat... then they hibernate for the Winter!

There was a cartoon several years ago called Go Go Gophers.
They were native americans gophers ( Running Board and Ruffled Feathers ) and their nemesis were members of the Cavalry (Colonel Kit Coyote and his idiot sidekick Sergeant Oky Homa). The rodents always prevailed.
This was a segment on the Underdog TV show.
They had a great theme song too. Not too long ago I was watching a hockey game between the Boston College Eagles and the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Minnesota band played the Go Go Gophers theme song.

the gophers don't like water but somehow they seem to survive flooding their holes with water... I guess they must stop up the hole with dirt....

Hi BBooper:
I know that this is not the name of the Gopher you were thinking of. Besides the Go Go Gophers on the Underdog show ( see Previous Post ) There was another cartoon Gopher named Vincent Van Gopher. He was one of the Co-stars on the Deputy Dawg show. The other cast members included the Sheriff, Muskie (The Muskrat) and Ty Coon. Vincent was always uttering the line...
"I don't see so good" ( he spent alot of time underground.)
