I was about 12 or 13. The first BB item I owned was a t-shirt with her as a cheerleader. Then my mom bought me one for Valentines day with the front of her on the front and the back of her on the back. In the early 1950s kids went to the cinema on a Saturday morning. It was called the matinee. You got in for a penny or two jam jars.

You got a cowboy film (Roy Rodgers, Hopalong Cassidy) or maybe Laurel and Hardy. You also got a cartoon, usually Mickey Mouse, but sometimes Betty Boop. Not the really old ones with jazz and the showgirl parts, more the respectable housewife stuff. I wasn't taken at first, but she was a lovable character and she grew on me.

I kinda forgot a bit about Betty when I was about nine. My grandpa was a fan, and had some old pictures of a much cuter Boop, but he died and they were lost. I didn't come across Boop again until the early 1970s, when there was a minor Boop revival. Some of the early, more daring shorts got an airing. My interest revived.

However, it was still a minority interest. Betty didn't "take off" until 1989 and Rodger Rabbit. Suddenly her image was everywhere. I hoped for a repeat of the original cartoons. Alas I was disappointed.

Maybe the new Boop image, used to market just about everything, doesn't fit with the original, jazy, showgirl image. Nor does it fit with the later meek houswife persona. So, no films on TV or cinema, no remastering of old shorts. I've seen a few VHS tapes, but the quality is very poor, even for 1930s films.

However, I've been a fan for over 50 years. I wait in hope.

I think we all feel that way. I'm like a kid in a candy store when new Betty Boop items arrive here in our shop! And when I get something as a gift, it's even better!!
Yea thats so true. My brother and my dad tried to get me this Baby Betty Boop doll out of a claw but they couldn't get it :( Oh well maybe next time

I have been a fan for about 19 years.

My dad used to get me episodes he ramdonly found in cheap stores when he traveled. He always said I looked like her when I was little. So far, I have always had her around one way or the other.

4 years ago I got a tatto of her on my left shoulder. It is actually the same image I use as avatar but in black and white. :cool:

;)When i was 2 my father nick named me Betty. He had me watching Betty Boop Cartoons since i was a Baby. Everyone knew i loved her and every year for my Birthday/Holidays i got a Betty Boop item. I was just under 8 (and I'm nearly 10 now).
I went shopping before my baby sis was born and liked the look of pair of BB pyjamas, they had a red top with a silver glittery square with a pic of Pudgy licking Betty's face, and the bottoms were white with red hearts on them. Then my grandma bought me a BB t-shirt which was long and pink, then a pair of pink pyjamas, then a doll, then another t-shirt, then underwear :D, then I just built up my collection so I have mobile phone socks, normal socks :D, handbags, travel bags, and even a watch. We are ordering a Betty Boop Ultimate Collection DVD Box Set, and I have watched a few BB cartoons (NOT banned though) on YouTube.
I have a cute little dog called Nell Pudgy Boop and she looks like pudgy so sometimes I like to pretend I'm Betty.
I adore my Betty doll and am planning on collecting the set, I have the talking Betty with the red satin dress, a white feather boa and a hollywood style hat with loads of white feather on top which is red satin too.
Anyway thanks for making this forum I love being able to tell other people (or Boopers!) about my Betty Boop collection.
