I'm wondering if there are Japanese posters here. I wonder how big she is in Japan. Anyone has any idea? I found quite a few sites on Google Japan (by asking to get pages only from Japan).
I know Japanese people love American pop culture icons so I'm wondering what's the case with Betty Boop.
Thanks! :D

Hi Mr. Motek... welcome to the forum. Do you live in Japan? I know there are fans in Japan but don't know how many there are. Are you a fan?

I'm not from Japan, but I like Japanese culture and very interested in it. I wonder how well Betty is doing in Japan and how the Japanese fans percieve Betty.
I'm certainly a fan. Thanks for the warm welcome. :D

I couldn't tell where you are from because you didn't indicate it by your name. You can do that via the USER CP controls.

Glad to hear you are a fan.... great question about Japanese fans by the way.
I hope you enjoy being a member here.

Betty was very big in Japan in the early 1930s.
After the Second World War the Japanese wnt their own way, but they still remembered Betty. She is acknowleged as one of their main influences by the creators of Japanese anime (magma).
I imagine the modern Betty image is as popular in Japan as anywhere else. If any of our boopers lives in or has visited Japan, maybe they could confirm this.

As you know, I have a business selling Betty Boop items world wide and I ship most of the international orders to Great Britain and Canada. We haven't shipped any orders to Japan.

The Moocher is right. Betty Boop has a strong influence in animations (animes) and comic books (mangas) in Japan. Have you notice all the good guys has big eyes like Betty Boop and all the bad guys have normal human eyes. It seems that the Japaneses has some strict rules in cartooning. Superman was not popular in Japan because he the hero and he has human eyes.

Oops, sorry, I meant magna. The original magna artists, for example Osamu Tezuka, freely acknowleged their debt to Betty Boop. However, in the 50s, the Japanese media played this down. Japan was a defeated nation but still a proud one, and wouldn't acknowlege any external influences, especially American.
