My fave white shirt suddenly has blue stains after washing it in the washing machine! I really don't know what caused it... I don't know what to do to save it! I've tried washing it again, but they won't come out!
Help me!!

Hmmm. As you stated...you don't know what caused the stains...
but check this link and see if it will help.

How Do I Remove Stains From Clothing?

All of us, no matter how neat, have been in a situation where we've had to remove stains from our clothes. In most cases, stain removal is quite simple, though sometimes clothing requires professional care. What follows are some stain removal tips.

Many stains become permanent only because one hasn't acted quickly enough. Rather than allow the stain to become embedded in the fibers of our clothing, it's best to act immediately. If the garment can be easily removed without causing embarrassment, soak it in cold water to loosen the spot. If the garment can't be removed, wet a cloth with cold water and blot until you've removed as much of the stain as possible.

It's important to blot gently at the stain. By rubbing it you're only producing more damage to the fabric. This will also cause the stain to spread.

If the garment is still stained after blotting it with cold water, try using a mild dish washing liquid. Blot a little onto the stain with a cloth until it's lifted. Soap can be blotted up with a damp sponge. If you're in an area where you can actually mix up a solution of one part dish washing liquid to two parts water, this will make for easier blotting.

Club soda and even other "clear" sodas will also help to remove the stain. Pour it on a cloth and blot until the stain is lifted.

If you happen to have some vinegarhandy, you can also use this to blot at the stain.

Cold water or any of the above remedies will help to remove the stain, or at least help it to fade away. After that you can launder the item of clothing as usual. If you try one of the above methods and the stain is still visible, you may want to pretreat with a laundry detergent or spot remover for a few hours before using the washing machine.

If you got to the stain early enough, it should come out of the washing machine good as new. If not, you may want to try pretreating again and throwing it in with your next batch of laundry. It's important to note that stained clothing should never be placed in the dryer or exposed to another form of heat such as an iron. The heat will cause the stain to set in permanently. If after a couple of washings the stain still exists, you should probably take the clothes to a dry cleaner for professional advice.

Stain removal isn't difficult. Just remember the three most important rules of stain fighting: act immediately, blot — don't rub, and never apply heat until the stain is removed. Soon, your little mishap will be only a distant memory.

When I have totally white clothes that get stained- I spray them with Chlorox clean up-let them sit and then just make it a bleach load. That might work.....

On white shirts, I have actually used the Bathroom cleaner that has bleach in it. It is similar to the Clorox clean up that Sally was talking about. I just spray it on there and let it soak all the way through.

Good luck on getting it out!!

(you could always just dye it blue....then it would be your fav blue shirt! ;) )

It has a print on it, so dying it blue is not really an option...
Won't you see the difference between the white of the cloth and the white of the bleached stains?

Sally77

You dont really see the bleach after you wash it. If the shirts all white-it wont hurt it.

they didn't disappear completely, but they aren't that noticable anymore. It's very light blue now, and if you don't know they're there, you don't see them.

Well that sounds pretty good to me... better that it disappeared some than to have to toss it into the scrap bin.

I've learned too...when you find something that you consider "cool" or "it fits you well"...or "it looks good on you"...buy a couple of them!!!

10eke

well, they don't sell these at a shop as I made it myself... So I can't buy more of them...

That was...if one gets stained or soiled you'll have another in reserve.

That works if you're buying it yourself but what if it's a gift from someone?

I use old clothing items as car and motorcycle washing and cleaning rags. If they are in good shape, I donate them to a charity.

I know what the problem is now. We use a little bowl for the liquid soap in the washing machine, and it turned sideways, and leaked on my clothes (according to the neighbour anyway). And it leaked in such a way there's a big pile of soap, and it won't come out, or it reacted with the cloth (that's how she said it)
I just washed my working gear, and it has the same stains as my fave shirt... Big problem!!! Does anyone have an idea on this?

richard kolasch
07-16-2006, 04:18 PM
we use liquid soap too.but no ball.
do you wash your jeans and shirts seperated?

10eke
07-16-2006, 04:45 PM
no, not when they've been washed a few times already. New clothes are washed sepetate. But these clothes have been wsahed before. Does it matter when jeans and shirts are washed together?

richard kolasch
07-16-2006, 04:53 PM
i wash all my jeans seprate.then wash t-shirts.

10eke
07-16-2006, 04:57 PM
I only have 2 (well-fitting) jeans, so if I'd wash them seperately, I'd run of out jeans to wear... That's why I wash them with shirts...

richard kolasch
07-16-2006, 05:10 PM
can you wash all your shirts frist,,then your jeans?

Overdrying.
Put clothes back in dryer. Set control for 15 to 20 minutes on permanent press or timed cycle. Heat and cool-down period will remove wrinkles. Reduce drying time and remove items when there is a trace of moisture in them; hang or fold items.
