In honor of Father's Day.. I was just remembering my dad and how much fun I had growing up with him as my father.

One of my best memories was when he taught me how to waterski!! At the Colorado River in 1957... I was 7 years old....

Anyone else have any great memories to share of their dad?

Wow what a great memory... that must've been an awesome train trip!! In the 60's we drove on Route 66 from California through St. Louis on our way to Ohio. But I never rode a train until I was an adult. Thanks for sharing that great memory with us. Sounds like a good time with your dad!! :)

Thanks for sharing your wonderful memory with your dad. Sounds like you had a great time in Sedona even though it involved a fish... LOL... and he just celebrated his 75th... good for him... my mom just turned 77 on May 22. We lost my dad in Jan. 1996 and we all miss him very much. I wish your mom could've been there to share your dad's birthday too.

Do you have any special plans with your dad for Father's Day this year?

My dad and I spent countkess hours on the keys...watching the ships on the sea...come in and go out. He taught me to fish...but I...well...don't really get into fishing. He could perform any task and was the best cook in all of the Caribbean. I looked up to him. It was hard taking on a boyfriend at first, because I was looking for all the qualities that dad had in these boyfriends (which I could never find).
Dad gave me my first car and a house and was just...there for me. HE spoke 3 different languages and was very handsome. My dad would come by nearly every morning to have coffee' / cappucino with me. HE departed this world in 1997 August.
My dad...my friend.

Favorite memory with my dad?

My dad use to drive a truck cross country and one summer when I was about 10 years old he let me go with him.
I went alot of places that summer! I had such a great time. I especially enjoyed when he took me to Elvis' home, Graceland. We got to go through the tour, watch movies at his theater, ride on the bus, and so many other things. It is something I will never forget! Just a special time that summer with my daddy!

Hi Dani... I'm sorry to hear that you don't have contact with your dad but if he's not a nice person then it is probably a good thing that you don't.

Do you have a favorite uncle or grandfather? You could share a favorite memory with one of them....

That sounds typical... isn't it funny how all the siblings try to be the favorite? That's how it was in my house growing up too.. my sister and I and my brother always tried to be the one dad chose.. except for chores.. hhaha..

That's neat that your kids had small clubs. I think they make small clubs for kids now... isn't that how Tiger Woods got started? He lost his dad to cancer ... sad..

I miss my dad...

My dad taught me how to hit a baseball. I kept striking out in a neighborhood softball game and I cried afterward. He took the time to show me how to stand, how to swing in the zone, and how to point my body to where I wanted the ball to go. After that I rarely struck out and usually made it to first... That was prettty cool for him to take the time to teach his daughter something like that....

I was always fascinated with all of his tools as a kid,. I guess that's why I love to collect tools now. I several tool boxes of various sizes including a mechanic's rolling tool box. I have more tools than most men I know! My dad was handy and so am I.

My daddy called me Booper. He called me that until he left our world.

Wow Lizzy what a nice tribute to your dad!! Your dad and mine sound a lot a like. I miss my dad too!!

He didn't want my sister and I to be sissys... so he got us into 1/4 midget racing when we were little and then we got into waterskiing. He was always building something... restored a Model A pick up truck and was always working, and my sis and I used to get tools for him... so we know about tools because of my dad!! He left me one of his big rolling tool boxes and left another to my sister and another to my brother. He had lots of tools!!

Well it's nice to remember our dads with such fondness!

I know this is an older thread, but I thought it was nice :)

Well my dad certainly entertained me when I was young (not that my mum was mean or anything though!!).
He used to say any random word, name, place, etc and I'd repeat it - but of course since I was a child, I didn't pronounce it right, and that always amused me :)

I can't really remember it, but I assume he played games with me quite a lot since we have photo's of me and dad dressed in cowboy hats with pretend rifles and stuff like that.
We also have a photo of a time mum was sleeping and we managed to tie her up with string and put make-up on her like warpaint! *lol*

I used to have the same hiding place when I was young for hide and seek. Dad always would say aloud, "I don't know where she is" and I'd feel all proud that my hiding place was good *lol*
(I hid under the coats hanging up in the hallway bit - I can remember fixing the coats around me so exactly so they'd cover me - but never realised my legs and feet were showing! :o).

We don't really talk as in, major deep conversations, but we can still spend good time together - we watch the same type of shows and films. He'd still also make a joke about what something sounded like on TV, make up a little rhyming song and stuff.

I have alot of great memmories of my Dad. He is a pack rat, everything can be used again sometime (eventually).

I think one of the best ones is one year he had about 6 geese. They were is little babies, none of us girls (I have 4 sisters no brothers) could get close to him when he was with them. Anyway, it was a warm day so we decided to take them to a little pond out behind our house. Those geese followed in a line behind him and when we got there they would not go in the water. Finally Dad pulled his pant legs up and got in up to his ankles and those silly geese would only go as far as he was. :)

And now I tell this to my girls when they tell me they are bored. My Dad had a coffee can of bent nails, if you didn't have anything to do he gave you a hammer and you were sitting in the garage striaghting nails for him.

I bet that was a good time! My dad and I played golf too. In fact, he bought me my first set of clubs when I was in college!! I started playing in high school and really enjoyed it. But I haven't played in a long long time now.

I should have titled this share your favorite memories.. instead of just one favorite memory.
