I think we all feel that way sometimes....... My dog is in her doghouse right now because she went after a big jack rabbit this morning and ran it out onto the highway... I'm always afraid that my dog is going to run out onto the highway too and if she's hit by a car it could be bad... the speed limit here is 45 but people do 55+ (p.s. I remember foghorn!!)

My sis has a pit bull too.. his name is Petey and he's a real sweetheart. She adopted him after he was hit by a car and badly injured. He only has 3 usable legs. But we all love him!!

I don't think I would want another dog either if something happened to my dog. She's my best buddy! (Most of the time!)

My sis was a vet tech for 25 years and she has adopted lots and lots of animals that were given up by their owners due to unwillingness to pay for the cost. My sis worked lots of overtime to pay the bills for these animals. We always say that she loves animals more than people.. LOL!;)

I have a dog...Copper...he owns this house, or so he thinks! I found him walking down a country road a couple of years ago. He was all nasty and covered in ticks and fleas. He didn't have any skin on his nose. I felt so sorry for him. I scooped him up and brought him home. After a good bath and some doctoring on his nose he was as good as new!
Here is a pic of him:

Yes, you definitely have pets... what are you going to do with all those new kittens?
Well the kittens will grow up wild. So it's really up to them if they survive. The smart ones stay close to the house and hunt during the day and keep themselves hid at night when the coyotes are out. The owls sometimes get the smaller slow moving kittens. Usually out of about 6 to 8 kittens born every year only 2 or so live or stick around the farm. The males usually head off to find them some females. But it's the female cats that stay close by the house. We feed them so they will stay close. The mouse population has gone down considerably in the last couple of years. We have only found one mouse in the house in the last year.

We have a couple of hawks that come back every year to have their young. It's really cool to watch them. Especially when the young one is learning to fly.

Last year they only had one and he's was something else. I named him 'Gracey Clumbsy' He got caught in the tree by our house. The limb he landed on wasn't meant to be landed on. It got tangled around his claw. He had a little trouble with the whole landing thing. lol We had to cut the limb out to get him down from the tree. Called the wildlife department to see what we should do first. Once I told him our suggestion he thought was great. It took Gracey a full night to recover from his ordeal. The parents finally started dive bombing him to get him to fly. They wouldn't stop. It finally got him out of the trees and flying. Once he figured it all out he started sqwaking like crazy and having a great time.

Glad it was happy ending.

What an amazing story.. we have had a couple pairs that nest in our area. One pair uses a tree not too far from our house. They usually have 2 nestlings but one always kills the other. Last summer there was a baby that didn't want to fly either and it just cried and cried and the parents did the same thing to it to get it to fly. I thought it was horrible watching them dive at that bird but eventually he got the idea and flew off!!

We had a beautiful falcon pair too but one of the falcons was electrocuted by the high line wires and we found it dead at the base of the pole. I called Arizona's Wildlife office too and they said I could bury it on my property but I could not do anything with the feathers. It was a beautiful bird and I felt sad that it was dead. We never did see the other falcon after that.

My cat was sitting in a windowsill and got caught in the pull up chords of the mini blinds and it nearly killed her. I found her fighting and clawing and hanging from the chords! She was beat up pretty bad and the chords slashed her throat and made her bleed pretty bad. She is getting better.... but she hasn't jumped in the window since. We cut all the chords on our blinds! So beware of chords with your cats!!

That is interesting that they wouldn't let you keep any of the feathers.
Did they say why?

Bikerbettyboop
06-23-2006, 10:21 AM
My cat is healing quickly and she learned a lesson.. she doesn't jump in that window sill anymore... which is funny because the blinds are gone!

This was the only window that had chords that hadn't been shortened and they weren't even tied together... the cat just got tangled in them... But I'm so relieved she is ok because I felt so guilty about her injury and my stupidity!

Our state doesn't allow birds of prey feathers to be used for personal use or resale because they are protected by state law and I would've known had I used them and I don't want to break the law.

Yes, I suppose. It is the bread of cat that he is. I can't think of the name right off hand, it is Marcoo or something in that nature. ( I will have to ask my brother again what bread he is) My Vet actually owns 3 of the same bread. They all range from 20 to 35 pounds!
They are just huge cats! I am not talking about just fat...he is big all over, legs, paws, and his head.
When he stands on his back legs he reaches my husbands waist!

just about every cat that I have had has been black except for one. Her name was Sassy. She looked like the cat in the basketin the first picture. The cat I have now, its name is Zink.

Black cats are considered very unlucky in the European and European-American traditions. Among Anglo-Saxons and Scandinavian people, it is said that one sets out on a journey and a black cat crosses the road ahead, one's only safe course of action is to turn back and return home. Tales of shape-shifting black cats and black cats who are in communication with the Devil are also a feature of European folk-belief. Concommitant with these negative feelings about black cats is the notion that they are particularly favoured as witches' familiars -- hence their almost universal use on Hallowe'en decorations.

In bright contrast to this image of the "evil" black cat, there is a "good" black cat -- the antinomian lucky black cat of the African-American sporting and gambling world. This black cat does double-duty as a representative of the black arts (including the granting of invisibility and the return of lost love) and as a bringer of money luck.

Hi Mrs. B...she looks like my kitten did when she was a baby too. Did she turn out to be Siamese (short hair) or does she have long hair?

I was hoping mine would be long hair (Himalayan)

How old is she now? Mine is just over a year old... here she was as a kitten sitting on our pool table:

Sounds like a plan!! My sister lost one of her cats to a predator bird yesterday! It ran out of the house and my sister was chasing it and that hawk grabbed it like it was a rabbit! We live in cattle country! Can't let cats outdoors!

We live in a 2bed unit so we don't have any pets. I use to have a dog "Ally" she was a Staffy X Cattle Dog, but i left her on acreage when i had to move out. I do miss her though.

My sister has or has had 3 types of Australian dogs... Australian Shepherds, Queensland Heelers (currently) and another one that I can't remember the name of.. maybe it's the one you had. My sister has horses and she's always lived in the country... and she loves Australian dogs. She says they are the best dogs with cattle and horses.
