Does anybody have a complete list of all Betty Boop and/or Talkatoons in the public domain? I've already seen seen several incomplete list of Betty Boop but any incomplete list of Talkatoons would be helpful.

Hi all, and welcome to this sparkling new forum.
In this thread I'm going to revise the material I posted in the Chit Chat Lounge. I compiled it in a hurry, and there were errors. I hope to correct most of them.
Please post comments and corrections. The last thing I want to do is monopolise the thread.
Because a fair proportion of posters speak UK English, and it's my natural language, I intend using UK spelling (colour rather than color). However, if there are any strong feelings about this I can switch to US English if required.
I'll start with a filmograpy. This includes both talkartoons and cartoons. I'll explain the difference between talkartoons and cartoons later, and I'll deal with screen songs later.
I'll list the shorts in release order. I won't state month of release as this is often debatable. The shorts weren't necessarily released in the order they were made.
I've put question marks after Hot Dog and Accordion Joe. The former starred "Bimbo and a pretty girl" and the latter "Bimbo and a woman" but the female character in either case is not identifiably Betty (although she probably was). I've done the same for The Herring Mystery Case because Betty wasn't in her normal form but had a small part as a very pretty fish.
Betty also appeared as a cat in the screen song Any Little Girl That's A Nice Little Girl (1931).

No, it's not posted with the other information at that link. That is the filmography, I was asking what cartoons are in the public domain. Clearly you don't understand.

I was referring to the "quote" I posted was listed there with other information at the link. And yes vallygurl888 I completely understand. And you are out of line coming here being rude to me.
That is not acceptable here at the forum.
I ask that you do not continue to display that kind of behavior. Thank you and have a nice day.

What kind of behavior? YOU DID NOT POST ANY INFORMATION ABOUT PUBLIC DOMAIN. Just admit it and let it go.

vallygurl888 > Whether one doesn't understand you or not, there is no need to answer back in a smart or sarcastic manner. The answer from you should've been, "Moocher's list is of all BB cartoons. I'm only interested in cartoons that are in the public domain, meaning no one owns them. Thanks for trying to help me." There is a civil way to conduct postings.
The Moocher might be able to help with identifying the ones in PD.

I did not use sarcasm anywhere. I did say I was looking for the public domain cartoons and she still insisted she was right.
You people are being rude to ME by lecturing me like an uneducated cretin.

In the posting of messages, sometimes the message is not clear or misinterpreted. It's not the same as in a face-to-face discussion where it's easy to go back and forth to clearify. Even the typing of a response may not be the tone one really wants.
You need to lighten up. No one is being rude to you.

Then I'm not being rude to everyone else. Why doesn't everyone else lighten up?

Vallygurl888> I never insisted that I was right. I was just stating that I understand what this thread is about. And no, I did not list any info about anything in the Public Domain but I did post a link to some very helpful information that Mooch has posted. I do not recall what all is in the thread by Mooch because it has been some time since I went through it. I thought by posting the link maybe you could read through and see if there was anything in there that might be helpful to you.
That is my job here at the forum, try to help new members find their way around on the board. If they have any questions, try to help them the best that I can or redirect them somewhere where they may find the answers they were looking for. That is all I was doing, being friendly, doing my job and trying to help out another member.

Yeah, nice job editing your first post. If I didn't know any better, I would totally think that I was wrong and an idiot too. Too bad I know what you originally wrote. Someone must have real problems admitting they are wrong if they would edit a post just to avoid admitting it to a stranger on the internet.
I'm not going to respond to post that aren't relevant to this thread. You can argue amongst yourselves.

The ORIGINAL post said "This is listed with other information at this link"Referring to the quote was listed there with other information.
Then I realized that you were confused by my posting. So all I did was
I changed it to clear up any confusion to "The following QUOTE is posted with other information at this link"
That is it!! Nothing more and nothing less!
I have no idea what your intention is coming on her and being so rude and hateful. This is a very friendly forum and we all get along great.
For you to come here and tell me I have problems is completely unacceptable.
I do not know what you think I am not admitting.
I never said I knew anything about anything in the public domain.
All I was trying to do was redirect you to a link to where some helpful information was located.
Obvisiouly you have problems with me for making one small mistake in making my post clear and understandable. I do not know what else to tell you except mistakes happen.
I am through discussing this matter with you. I hope you find a way to enjoy yourself here at the forum.

I've been away for a few days and missed this.
Regetfully I do not have a list of all the Betty Boop cartoons that are in the public domain. The precise ownership of Betty Boop cartoons, Betty Boop images and the Betty Boop trademark is a complex legal issue.
As a general rule of thumb, most cartoon made before 1939 are probably in the public domain.
The Internet Archive (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Archive) holds 22 public domain Betty Boop cartoons. The Director of the Internet Archive, Steven Worth, sometimes posts here as asifaarchive. Possibly he could be of further help.
Incedently, I don't think the Kids in the Shoe is a Betty Boop Cartoon. I'm not sure about Sin for Your Sinners. I think this might have been a Screen Song, but I don't know if it featured Betty.
I would be amazed if Betty Boop's Hollywood Mystery were in the public domain. Last I heard it was owned by the Disney Cartoon Channel.

Yes, that's an excellent resource. You can sometimes find other shorts on DVD (for example The Ultimate Collection) although the quality is variable. There are also pay to download sites such as LikeTelevision that may have other shorts, although most simply charge for what the Internet Archive gives for free.
With regard to the original question, if anyone has a definitive list of what Betty Boop cartoons, screen songs and talkartoons are in the public domain, it is probably the Internet Archive.
Remember that this situation is complicated by colorization and remastering. Black and white originals may be in the public domain while colorized versions of the same cartoon may not. Also if a cartoon in the public domain is remastered, the original may be in the public domain, but the remastered version may not.
I'm sorry I can't give a more definitive answer.
