View Full Version : Can anyone help?
Hi ya!
I'm new to this, so please bear with me.
When I was a child (I'm 26 now) I had a Betty Boop Movie. Now, I'm not sure whether it was just a compolation of Betty Boop shorts or whether it was an actual film. The only thing that I remember being in it was dancing skeletons, someone making a house out of bricks, ghosts maybe, oh and the 'hi-de-hi-de-ho' song. My Dad recorded over it when I was small and I remember being so upset over it! However, I don't know the name of it and wouldn't have a clue as to where to look for it.
So, I am on the hunt for a replacement so that I can re-watch it and take a stroll down memory lane. If anyone can help in my quest, please let me know.
Cheers!

This sounds like a compilation of excerpts from several Betty Boop shorts. There were several of these made.
The dancing skeletons would be from Betty Boop's Museum, The Hi-de-hi, Ho-de-ho song is from the Old Man 0f the Mountain. I do't recall ghosts building a house of bricks, but maybe you're thinking of the ghost convicts in Minnie the Moocher.
I don't know what the compilation was called, but it contained some really weird but good stuff.
Tell me - was Betty pursued by a dragon, and did she fix some very human cars?

Is it possible that pigs were buiding a house of bricks? If so, then that's an excerpt from Betty Boop in Mother Goose Land.

Thanks, you're all so kind welcoming me in!
I'm trying to this of what else I remember - did she make a cake or something? My memory is so bad!

Betty made a cake in The Impractical Joker. She tried to make pastry (with considerable lack of success) in Swat That Fly.
I'm becoming intruiged with this one. at first I thought it might have been the 1983 remake of Betty Boop for President, which contained excerpts from a number of other cartoons. However, the I can't think of any compilation that contains Betty Boop's Museum, The Old Man of the Mountain, The Impractical Joker and possibly Minnie the Moocher, Betty Boop in Mother Goose Land and Swat That Fly.
The Betty Boop for President compilation did contain excerpts from Snow White and So Does an Automobile, hence my question about dragons and automobiles.

I'm really sorry I can't remember any more though, would love to have a copy of whatever it was that I watched when I was little!

It is possible that the tape Could have been The Betty Boop Scandals of 1974, which was a collection of some of her better shorts.
The other possibility is Hurrah for Betty Boop. This was a compilation of extracts from cartoons. I have two fairly reputable sources, one of which says this compilation was the same as in Betty Boop for President and was released in 1980. The other says it was a different compilation and was released in 1985.
If the shorts were black and white the tape was probably The Betty Boop Scandals.
These releases were televised and your parents may have recorded them. I don't think they were ever released on VHS.
The other alternative is that Betty Boop cartoons were occasionally televised 20-30 years ago. Maybe your parents recorded some of them.
Unfortunately the compilations are no longer available - or not in any format that would play in the UK - so I can't be more definite.

I'd surely love to get my hands on The Betty Boop Scandals of 1974. Hurrah for Betty Boop (and the 1985 Romance of Betty Boop) compilations I'm not so sure about. These featured the very crudely colourised cartoons of the 1960s and early 1970s and really don't do justice to the Fleischers' output.
However, even in NTSC VHS they appear to be out of print, and if you want PAL VHS I regret you've no chance at all.
You can get Betty Boop cartoons on DVDs that might play on a PC or a standalone DVD player, but not on a UK TV. They are of varying quality.

I'm a new member here. I was hoping someone could tell me how I can buy a copy of "The Betty Boop Scandals of 1974." But I see others here are as stuck as I am. I saw the film on my college campus in 1974. I saw it again in a different city around 1985. There was one cartoon within that compilation that still haunts me. It was about a town infested with so many lunatics that they had to be scooped off the street corners. This task was performed by two dogs who operated a dog catcher van modified to catch crazy people.
Does anyone know the name of this cartoon? I would appreciate any help.
