Hello Betty Boop collectors!

I am in serious need of some facts! I have three Lulu Soday trays with Betty Boop images and am very curious as to the actual dates that Betty Boop was a licensed image for Lulu. I'm getting conflicting info. I'm getting 50s only in some places and 1960s in others.

If you need to know the specs on the images, they are:

Lulu Tin Litho tip tray with Betty Boop Mining Jewels
Lulu Tin Litho tip tray with "Cowgirl" Betty Boop on Rocking Horse
Lulu Tin Litho tip tray with Betty Boop Soda Bottle in Ice Bucket...

I can provide Images as well if needed.

Thanks for any help!!!!

Layne :P (these Betty Smilies are teh rock!)

Hello Layne,
These trays were first produced in the 1960s (late) and continued in production through the 1980s. The parent company of Lulu, Pascual, used images of Betty for Lulu and Donald Duck for Boing sodas, without license. They were sued by KFS, but since they are a foreign company, it was difficult to enforce the suit. In the 1990s, they redesigned Lulu soda and a Betty look-a-like, with straight hair was used to avoid the licensing problem.
This is all documented in Ch 17 of "The Definitive Guide to Betty Boop Memorabilia" and if you are a true BOOP-a-holic, you should have at least one copy!
Pascual made losts of other promotional items including ashtrays, ice chests, tin signs, notepads, glasses, all of which are rarer than the trays.
Trays sell for anywhere from $5 to $25, depending on condition and rarity. There are 44 in a complete set.
Hope this helps.

I have a LULU coke bottle with Betty Boop Face on it, how rare is it?

I would call them 'uncommon'....not really rare, yet not readily available. It also depends on the style. Pre-1980s, Betty looked more like the Betty we know, after that, Pascual was forced to stop using Betty's image without being licensed, so they made her hair longer, fuller and gave her straight bangs; but nose, eyes and mouth remained the same.
If you want to find out more about Pascual Soda and Lulu, there is an entire chapter on it in my book.
