This seller has several auctions for old carnival dolls and is calling each of them Betty Boop and I don't think they are:
He sold this item for $66.00!

As I said on a previous thread there is a market for chalkware. This seller appears to be selling a collection of dolls. He claims they look like Betty Boop. I don't think they do.
It seems to be an individual collector selling his collection. I'd rather he didn't describe them as Betty Boop, but I'd have a lot more problems if a company were selling dolls in their thousands.

I think most people will agree with you that it shouldn't hurt if a seller is just selling one doll versus thousands of dolls.... but where do you draw the line?
I don't think it's right if it's one doll or ten dolls or 1000 dolls.... but that's just how I feel.
And it is my opinion that this seller is misrepresenting the doll... claiming it to be a Betty Boop doll when I don't think that it is. So here in lies the problem. I hope that the buyer is educated enough to realize that the doll probably isn't a genuine Betty Boop doll.

The doll isn't Betty. I don't think it looks like Betty, but that's just my opinion.
The seller thinks the doll looks a bit like Betty and describes it as "Betty Boop?" or "Betty Boop Look-a-like." There's a picture, so we can judge for ourselves.
It is not a breach of copyright or anything else to say something "looks like" Betty Boop. The seller isn't attempting deceipt. Ugly though most of them are, chalkware dolls are collectors items and the doll is being sold as such.
I don't much like the advert, but I don't think the seller is in breach of anything.
I'm right behind BBB's campaign to stop unlicensed use of the Betty Boop image on ebay. However, in my inexpert opinion, this one isn't worth pursuing.

It is very clear from the picture that the doll doesn't look like BB at all!
I have noticed that people that come across old dolls always refer to them as a Betty Boop doll or Looks like a Betty Boop doll. I am not sure why they do....most of them look nothing like Betty.
