I think the picture is authorized. I'm sure I've seen it on some reputable sites.

However, if it's being used without permission then this should be stopped. It seems odd that a replica car manufacturer (presumably a fairly large company) should be into piracy.

I don't think it is a legal item. It's something that the seller has handcrafted and is now trying to sell on eBay.

It seems to be shown in its original packaging, and the decal looks to be enammeled rather than painted on. It looks professional.

I have asked the seller if there are any licensing notices on the packaging regarding the illustration. As yet I have had no reply.

Hi Mooch... I have had many dealings with this seller over the years... beware because he can get quite beligerent in his replies. He thinks that he can sell whatever Betty Boop items he wants too and he knows they aren't licensed. This is a Maisto car in which the seller stuck a Betty Boop decal on the hood and is calling it a Betty Boop item! That kind of thing drives me crazy!!

Thanks BBB. I didn't get a reply, but you have identified the dealer, and the item as unlicensed and that's good enough for me.

I could have been very easily fooled by the picture, which appears to show the car in its original wrapping. The sticker may have come from a reputable supplier and may have a licensing notice on it. Sticking the sticker on to a model car and selling it as a Betty Boop special is, however, piracy.

This really is a minefield.

This guy is pretty sneaky in the way he can open a package and affix a sticker to the car and then reseal it so that it appears to be official.

The auction ended for that item but low and behold... here it is again!

Sure wish we could stop this guy.. he is a real thorn in my side. He sends me taunting email messages all the time telling me that he's never going to get caught and that King Features doesn't care and so on and so on. He's a real loser!

I can't believe he is so immature that he sends you taunting emails!!
