1) There's usually the copyright and/or trademark notices which is close to this:
Copyright © King Features Syndicate, Inc. / Fleischer Studios, Inc.
™Hearst Holdings, Inc. / Fleischer Studios, Inc.
or it may simply have this on the product:
© K.F.S.
2) The quality of the image of BB. The product must be approved and pass the quality control established our Licensing Art Dept. Though in the past, we were more lax with the quality of BB merchandise.
Honestly, if an unlicensed product had the above legal info, it would be hard to tell if it was authorized or not.

thanks for the info MG, it's like a painting, though if it's very well done, we need an expert to tell wether or not it's a real item, but of course we're all starting to be experts now aren't we ? and bad luck to the one who wants to copy our "Chérie"!!!!!!

In the world of collecting, officially licensed products are always going to be more valuable because that means it's a genuine authorized product. I always encourage collectors to purchase licensed products because it adds to the value of the item.

I think if your looking to build a collection of Betty Boop stuff, you should only collect the official merchandise(as the value will increase eventually), but if your just looking to buy something for display then as long as it doesnt look to tacky i guess it will do not being official...

:o Do any of you think that it is bad if someone makes you things that say BB on it or is it just a nice thing to have? I mean my Grandma found this Betty Boop sowing thing and made me a blanket. It has no value to a collecter, but it has value to me. I guess what I am asking is, does that make you less of a BB collecter or not?

No, it certainly doesn't make you less of a BB collector. :D
Personally, if I received a gift with BB on it that was done by a family member or friend... that would be the most valuable BB item in my possession! In other words... priceless!!!

I agree too, my fav character is Deadpool, and when it was my birthday last year i had a T-Shirt made for me, it was great although it didnt fit me and the iron pictures where in odd places, i loved and so made my monkey teddybear wear it.
I cherish it and if it was losted i dont know what i'd do without it.

I think that everything that has Betty Boop on it is just great but something that someone took the time to personally handcraft would be pretty cool and endearing to me and a wonderful addition to my collection. After all, one of a kind items are more valuable personally than owning something that lots of other people also own.

I have some very precious (to me anyway) handmade beaded earrings of BB.. and matching necklace.. ;)
I also have a quilt, my grandma made me with many differnt poses of BB.. this quilt is over 20 years old.. and still in GREAT! condition, as EVERYONE knows they don't touch my quilt!!
These are rare and one of a kind... but would be worth a fortune to a BB collector.. NO NOT for sale, just stating that Trademark/Official Licensed products.. isn't always the only way to go..

i agree with you meluvboop, handcrafted stuff just has a certain thing about it, you cherish it more knowing you only own it and the fact some took their time to make it for you....its quiet a heart warming thing.

I agree 100% that hand made items are very nice to add to our collections. Make them more treasured.

That is so cute DEADPOOL! That is a neat idea dressing your monkey with that shirt that meant so much to you. Has anyone else done something like that?
:) I lost one of my BB earing and put the other one in this foam like frame. A homemade BB frame.

Thanks Boopilicious20, it was a great T-Shirt and my Teddy deserved it, after all the neglect i had given it over the years.
But i like what you did with your odd ear-ring, neat! If i ever lose an ear ring from a set ill be sure to take note.

I think BB is just great and its all a matter of preference - i'm not collecting for the potential in re-sale value. So official items although great are not my complete collection. A friend of mine a lady in her 60's knows of my BB addiction and made the sweetest cushion for my b'day recently. the eyes came out a bit funny but it makes it all the more special to me as i know she put in the effort.

That sounds like a nice gift from your friend!! Sometimes the hand made items are more valuable emotionally than the most expensive collectible. Was this a birthday present?

sure was - she even made a card to match it was soooo sweet.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to buy non licensed merchandise... whether it's Betty Boop or any other licensed products. Those people who do buy non licensed merchandise really hurt those manufacturers who produce only officially licensed items and I don't think that non licensed merchandise has any collectible value because it's an illegal item. Hope that makes sense to everyone. I agree with Boopsie and Flirting Boops on this matter.
