Ok i've been reading a lot of threads, posts and replies over the months and people make comment about the pic's of Betty Boop that some are proper licensed ones and some aren't, so my question is this:-
How can you tell which is which?
I love Betty Boop and want to do the right thing and only have proper pic's - but i can't tell which is which!!
Help!!

good question! images of BB that are licensed tend to have something along the lines of:
©2002 - 2005 King Features Syndicate, Inc. / Fleischer Studios, Inc.
TMHearst Holdings, Inc. / Fleischer Studios, Inc.
somewhere in the image. i've attached some examples below for you :) sometimes its a little harder to find!

It's a bit more complicated.
Images of Betty Boop used for marketing purposes are licensed by King Features. Any modern image (in theory post-1939, in practice post-1988) should be licensed by King Associates, who own the rights to Betty's image.
This is a good thing. It results in a very high and consistent quality of Betty Boop illustrations.
However, King Associates don't own Betty Boop cartoons.
So any screen shot or cel from a Betty Boop cartoon (1930-1939) is "legitimate." These were drawn by Fleischer animators such as Grim Natwich or Myron Waldman, and you don't get more legitimate than that. However, many Betty Boop cartoons are in the public domain, and screenshots are readily available on the Internet.
The illustrations I use in the History of Betty Boop thread all fall into that category. They're not licensed by King Associates, but I wouldn't use a non-legitimate image. I feel very strongly about that.
