I'm so bored right now. I know I should be doing stuff like work but I don't really want to. It's a beautiful day outside and I would rather be at home helping the hubby pick the apples in the Orchard.

Oh my gosh you all are making me hungry.
I know there's lots to do with apples but heck when you work full time who has the time. My favorite is apple butter. Love smearing it on a warm english muffin. YUMM!!!!
By the time lunch came around at work yesterday I ended up so darn busy i wasn't bored any longer. Funny how that works huh?
Hey if any of you have any good recipes for apples send them to me. I live on 90 acres of orchard. Almost all apples and 10 acres of it cherries. So pull out your best recipes and send them to me. I would love to find new and different ways of using the apples and cherries. I do make cherry vodka every summer though. Want to talk about delicious.
Candlesnboop do you have a recipe for Apple Butter? I've never made it and my hubby loves it as much as i do.

About this time of the year we go to our local orchards and pick bags of apples.

Nothing like eating an apple right off the tree. They taste sooooo much better. I don't even buy them in a store after harvest is over. They don't taste the same.

Here is a recipe for Apple Butter!! Yummy!!
Ingredients:
15 or so medium sized tart apples (four or five pounds)
4 cups apple juice or cider
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
2 cups sugar
Wash, core and quarter apples. It is not necessary to peel the apples. Place the apples in a large kettle or Dutch oven along with the juice or cider. Bring to a boil then cover the mixture and simmer for about 30 minutes, making sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Now press the mixture through a sieve or a food mill. Return about 10 cups back to the Dutch Oven. Stir in sugar, and spices (and everything nice). Bring to a boil and then reduce heat yet again. Leave uncovered and over very low heat cook for about one and a half hours until mixture is very thick. Be sure to stir periodically and frequently to prevent burning on the bottom.
Here is the canning part: Spoon apple butter into hot, sterilized canning jars (pint or half-pint do nicely). Leave 1/4 inch head-space. Wipe rims and adjust lids. Place in a boiling-water canner for 5 to 10 minutes (5 minutes for half-pints, 10 minutes for full pints from the time the water begins to boil). Carefully take jars from canner and allow them to cool on racks. The result is about 4 pints. So double up on recipe for bigger batches!

Here's a favourite recipe for you!
Enjoy! :D
Apple Pie
Pastry for two-crust 9-inch pie
6 Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored, and thinly
sliced
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground mace
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Cream or whole milk
1.) Heat oven to 425 degrees F. Line a 9-inch pie pan with half the pastry. In large bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, and mace; toss well to blend. Transfer apple mixture to pastry-lined pie pan and dot with butter.
2.) Cover apple filling with remaining pastry; pinch together edges of bottom and top crust to seal. Brush top crust with cream or milk; cut several slits to vent steam. Bake 20 minutes. Reduce oven heat to 375 degrees F and bake 30 to 35 minutes or until apples are tender.

I'm fond of apple crumble. I don't know if it's a US dish but it's popular in the UK. You mix flour and sugar, work in a little butter, put the crumbly mixture on top of stewed apples in a baking dish then bake in an oven.
Please don't ask for a detailed recipie. I never use recipies.

Actually where I live we are considered the apple capital of the world. I don't know if that's still true, to many people moving in and cutting down the orchards. But anyway, Apple Crisp is the cities top dish. Good stuff.
