Isn't Betty Boop Items being overdone?

I love Betty Boop as much as everyone on this website, otherwise why would I go on it? But seriously there is sooo much out there. I find thrill in searching for rare B.B stuff that few people have. I love that she is being reintroduced to the world but if all this memerobelia is being made then there is no thrill in looking. There is so much available- but then we don't have a chance to find the stuff that is rare now. In 50-100 years the stuff being made now will be rare, but come on as time goes on we will have even less space to put all of it. We should save our money for the things that are harder to find, and educate the world on who Betty is. Not the items she happens to have her face on that will get lost in all our clutter that we have.

I have been a fan of Betty Boop since i was 6 or 7 but really I do not have the space in my house for much more- I would rather leave space for what I really want or what is harder to find or I fear that she will become an overused cartoon character that people start to grow tired of IF they don't really know the history around her.

I know that some people may not agree with this view but it has to be said and I would find it hard to believe that somebody does not agree with this.

I mean i love finding all her stuff in stores but how much can we actually own- and if everyone has it then how original is it? where is the fun if it is everywhere? It has been so commercialized that everywhere i go i find her and that just means that i will find more and more that i dont have the space for.

Finding Information in those books that are out of print is what can bring us closer to knowing more about her- not having a notebook or statue. I find them cool but information can be taken with you wherever you go, statues, and bags, and pens, and notebooks, and pictures can't.

We can learn more from the information than objects- for example I recently read the Fleischer Story by Leslie Cabarga. And it had more information that I personally haven't come across with before and it held my attention more than a statue ever could.

I have to agree with you. I have been rather choosy lately. Only buying the stuff that I really want not just because it has her face on it. I have to admit though that when I first started collecting her I went a little crazy, but as time went by I slowed down.

To be honest, it got to the point that for every birthday or Christmas or any gift giving celebration someone was buying me something with Betty Boop on it. I got to the point that I didn't want to receive any gifts from anyone anymore because I pretty much new what it was going to be. But in the last 5 or 6 years it has backed off. Now my friends and family only buy me stuff that looks unusual, or something there isn't a ton of somewhere.

So I have to say I agree with you 100%.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE my collection. I don't want to offend anyone. There are times though that I would rather not receive BB stuff for every gift giving event. I personally like it when my friends or family are out shopping or whatever and they spot something they think I would like and give it to me just because. For me that means more.

I don't think she's over commercialized I'm just rather choosey about what items I will buy. I only buy items that have King Fleischer logo on them.

I must admit that i'm trying to be very selective in what i get, making sure i get proper BB stuff and not dodgy rip-off items. But it's so hard coz you think you're buying proper things and then later you find them not to be right!! :(

However i am also trying to be abit selective but................ it's hard coz i love her and it makes me happy (and drives the other half nuts!!! :D:D:D)

Me too. It drives the hubby crazy when I get something betty. I don't care, it's my obsession and I like it!!! A friend of mine was his aunts garage sale and she had a wall hanging lamp of Betty and purchased it for me. It's cute. I'd seen it years ago but never bought it. Now I have it. When I brought it home and showed it to him all he did was roll his eyes and laugh.

I just joined this site and it seems ok to me but I feel it is a bit clicky. It seems like there are a few people who post all over the place leaving their opinions and such and if you don't agree with them, it seems you ruffle their feathers.

I have to say I like to see other people's creative interpretations, too, but not the items that are disgraceful to Betty's image. I have made some Boop items for myself and I enjoy them a lot! Sometimes we have to improvise. If I want a sterling Betty Boop ring, and there is nothing like that in existence, I'll go ahead and make myself one. It's just a way of enjoying Betty and paying my very own tribute to her.

Well I like to collect porcelain bettys and all my kitchen is of her I also know how to draw so I drew her standing in front of my kitchen bar in life size and it looks pretty nice. You know what, this is one, of very few familiar and nice places where a person can hang out and not be ashamed in front of their children. You know we should all be like children maybe the world would be a better place to live in. I loved reading in another post what some second graders had to say about their moms, its just wonderful to see how innocent and loving they can be and acceptable with each other. You mean you actually hand someone your credit card to pay for things? I never do. In stores, I slide the card myself. Online, I enter the number. I really doubt anyone would even care what the card looks like. (Except you yourself). They only care that it is good.

:confused: No I don't give anyone my credit card I always swipe it myself and online I enter the number;). I say it because I also have an atm card and I have a betty boop on it, but when I go to any store and I slide the card to pay, most of the time the cashiers sometimes look at the card and they make a remark on the betty (if they are a betty fan) . I'm also in a betty boop fan club over here and it would be nice to show it to my friends in the club, whenever we get together we show each other our new betty stuff. :P

Ya know, here in Phoenix they had this great store called Jutenhoops. I loved going there and finding all the cool BB and Coke trinkets. They had EVERYTHING! I was so bummed when they closed the doors. Now I don't know where to find any BB stuff except cheap trinkets from the dollar stores now and then. :(

I don't have a great deal of Betty stuff,My Best Friend has bought me a few things,My Husband bought me a purse,when my Aunt Belva passed away I got some of her Betty Stuff and my Aunt Linda got me a cloth Betty doll,all the rest I've bought for myself..I don't have the money to buy a great deal at a time but I do find bargains on Ebay so I make the $$$ stretch!!!! I'm gonna be leaving my Husband in Aug. so I'm not sure how much Betty I'll be able to buy,but if I can I'll have Betty Boop in every room of MY APARTMENT......And who knows maybe I'll get lucky and Someone who has tons and tons of Betty will donate some to me since I'm only taking my clothes and my cat,computer,desk,and chair....All the other stuff needed to survive I'll have to get agian........I hate the idea of starting all over agian but it is worth it...

I have a lot of Betty things but they don't have any selling points. I like things I can enjoy. I have a pizza cutter which is a great conversation. I have many other items that are part of my collection.

I love Betty Boop as much as everyone on this website, otherwise why would I go on it? But seriously there is sooo much out there. I find thrill in searching for rare B.B stuff that few people have. I love that she is being reintroduced to the world but if all this memerobelia is being made then there is no thrill in looking. There is so much available- but then we don't have a chance to find the stuff that is rare now. In 50-100 years the stuff being made now will be rare, but come on as time goes on we will have even less space to put all of it. We should save our money for the things that are harder to find, and educate the world on who Betty is. Not the items she happens to have her face on that will get lost in all our clutter that we have.

I have been a fan of Betty Boop since i was 6 or 7 but really I do not have the space in my house for much more- I would rather leave space for what I really want or what is harder to find or I fear that she will become an overused cartoon character that people start to grow tired of IF they don't really know the history around her.

I know that some people may not agree with this view but it has to be said and I would find it hard to believe that somebody does not agree with this.

I hope they never stop boopin. I LOVE her. My fiance' says I have what he calls "a betty boop gasp" when we're out and I see betty (no matter what it is just as long as I see the face) I do a certain gasp and all he has to do is hear that and he knows what it mean "I've spotted betty" :D and he'll either stop and look or drag me past if we don't have the time lol. My 3 boys have even come to know "the gasp" and they respond with "oh no she sees betty boop!"

I have even recently gotten betty on my phone as a ringback tone (what callers hear when they call me) and my Ringtone he he and I just love them.

LOL i'm loving the fact that throughout this thread on more than one occasion people referred to their love & collections as their Obsessions. I am more than thrilled that i am not alone with this :) I personally prefer to buy for myself special, unique & rare BB items, but my family & friends are more than welcome to shower me with what ever BB gifts they like ROFL
