View Full Version : Editing your own posts

No matter how carefully I read my posts I often see an error just after I've posted.

On other bulletin boards of which I'm a member, ordinary posters can edit their own posts, although the fact that a post has been edited is recorded.

Can this be implemented here - at least in the Chit Chat Lounge? How easy is it to do?

Just a suggestion....

You can type your posts into Word and then paste them here once they've been spell-checked. I don't see that as a problem.

In one post I typed "Banjo Pete" when I meant "Accordion Joe." In another I identified a capture as being from "Boop-Oop-A-Doop" and then realised as soon as I read the text that I should have said "Minnie the Moocher." That's the sort of mistake I'd like to be able to correct.

The main reason the ability to edit your own posts is disabled is because in the past a few members were abusing that privilege. Messages were written, then modified after it was read.

The Preview Post is my favorite thing here at the forum. Although I still get mistakes in after reviewing my posts but it is still my best friend. 'Snicker'

I'm aware of that problem. In other BBSs, if a poster edits a post a banner appears on the post saying it was modified and giving the date and time. This limits the abuse of the privilege. Also, if a Moderator edits somebody else's post this is recorded in the same way.

Just my $0.02 mgchan. You're the boss.

I tried Preview once, Candles, and then when I tried to edit the post I lost it. Maybe I'm just dumb :)

Is A Typo Really That Important To Worry About? Especially When We All Pretty Much Know The Word You Were Spelling... And You Can Always Type In Another Post Below It To Correct...if I Have A Typo...please Excuse Me...i Cant Type...lol

Typos aren't important. Wrong information is - for example if you type 1943 and mean 1934. Even if you correct it immediately the wrong information remains on your original post and people might not read the correction.

The issue had more to do with how it was being misused. It was treated as a personal "chat" and that is what the forums is not about.

Usually in other sites I am careful with grammar and spelling because it can cause flaming.
