Legal question

I noticed, for several months now, that in my local newspaper there have been ads placed by strippers using Betty Boop in the ad. Is this legal? Is Betty Boop's image free of copyrights that anyone can use it for any manner they want? If not, who do I contact about this because personally I find it tacky that strippers are using her image (even if Betty is a ****** creature).

I agree that using Betty in that way is very tacky!

If I were you I would contact your newpaper that is putting the ad in and tell them that, that is copyrighted and they will stop. They know they are not suppose to do that.

Another question, do you back any kinds of fabric materials? I have seen Betty Boop material, I want to buy but I am not sure, I wrote to them to see if they were affiliated with Fletcher Studios but I have not heard back from them.

I'm glad that's taken care of.

For the record, I believe that the picture of Betty in a bubble bath is "official." I have seen it on several Betty Boop fan sites, and I think on the Official Betty Boop Fan Club site.

However, in my opinion this makes the advert even worse. You need to get approval (and pay the licensing fee) to use any official Betty Boop image for commercial purposes, and there's simply no way that King Features would have approved the use of Betty's image for this advert. So, not only were the bad guys using Betty Boop's image for inappropriate purposes, they had ripped the image off in the first place :mad:

Don't she look pretty in the bath, though :D.
