View Full Version : Feeding the Baby

Should women feed their babies from the b.r.e.a.s.t. in the public (i.e. subways, shops, airlines, etc?)
It seems to pose a problem for some. What do you think?

I don't have a problem with it except for the women that don't throw a blanket over the feeding area. The only reason is because when they leave it all in the open then I have my children staring and asking questions rather LOUDLY.
Feeding the baby from the mother is perfectly natural and that is the way for many many moons moms fed their babies.

I think nowadays women have to be more discreet about it,but i don't see it as a problem..I think those who object could try to explain their concerns to a hungry baby, but if it's anything like my boys were as babies then baby ain't gonna be happy till he's fed no matter how inconveniently placed mummy is

Now days there are etiquitt in feeding a baby in public. Some places like my mall down home, have a special place where you can go and let your child play while you feed your baby away from others.
It is some what a conterversial subject, some people are ok with it an others oppose. My hubby was recently asked if he minded if he cared if the women feed her baby, he did not care a bit.

I don't get upset when women feed their babies, I wished some of those women who just expose all, would cover up. It isn't the babies fault at all. When a baby is hungry, a baby has to eat, right then and there. There usually is no time to find a secret corner or anything. Thats how my girls were anyways. I say if your baby is hungry and needs to eat, then feed them. Just be courteous and put a blanket over your feeding area. Incase thre are curious small children around.

You all made very good points. This issue was brought up on TV and I thought...hmmm. Should be nothing wrong with it. It is a very natural process and very OLD procedure. However, I do agree that a woman should not just "whip it out" and baby starts to ****! Be descreet and respectful of others. It may even be a good idea for a woman to cover up to protect herself from possible harm. There was one man on TV who made the comment that it made him...RISE up from the dead!!!
(hahaha)...so descreet...I repeat!

i think it;s ok to do it when your about and about, but should probably do it somewhere like a baby chaging area, it can make some people feel uncomfortable.

YES!! My wife ****** fed both her Children In Public and not. It isn't Anyones fault but their own if they are such prudes as to not allow a woman to feed a child the way nature intended. Besides that it is the most healthy thing you can do physically and psyscologically for both you and your baby!
BBooper

i agree that it is the healist option for they child, and there's absolutly nothing wrong with doing it, but being prude or not it does make some people feel uncomfortable, for example, people with small children who may ask questions. Both the public and the mother should respect the fact that it is the way nature inteded, but it isn't always that way im afraid! those are just my views and i gues si can hal agree with aminal and half agree with the other boopers! i can see both sides of the argument!

"Lactivists"
Spare me.
The calls for a "nurse-in" began on the Internet mere moments after Barbara Walters uttered a negative remark about public ******-feeding on her ABC talk show, "The View."
The protest, inspired by similar events organized by a growing group of unlikely activists nationwide in the last year, brought about 200 women to ABC's headquarters yesterday. They stood nursing their babies in the unmistakably public venue of Columbus Avenue and West 67th Street. They held signs reading, "Shame on View," and "Babies are born to be ******fed." Ms. Walters, who remarked a few weeks ago on the show that the sight of a woman ******-feeding on an airplane next to her had made her uncomfortable, said through a spokesman that "it was a particular circumstance and we are surprised that it warrants a protest."
...
In interviews and Internet discussions, hundreds of women recount being asked to stop nursing in public spots, including the Children's Museum in Huntsville, Ala.; a knitting store in the East Village; a Radisson Hotel lobby in Virginia; a public bus in Los Angeles; and a city commission meeting in Miami Beach.
"It's nothing against ******-feeding, it's about exposing yourself for people who don't want to see it," said Scotty Stroup, the owner of a restaurant in Round Rock, Tex., where a nursing mother was refused service last fall.
But the new generation of lactivists compare discomfort with seeing ******-feeding in public to discomfort with seeing interracial couples or gays holding hands.
Because there is a pretty close correlation between ******-feeding and being black. If you want to feed your baby in a public place then use a bottle - they won't die. If you want to ******-feed the baby then be considerate enough of other people to go somewhere private to do it.
This comment is typical of the mentality of too many people on too many subjects:
"I have the right to ******-feed my child without getting nasty looks," said Patricia Lechuga, 32, who said she watches "The View" every morning while ******-feeding her 10-month-old daughter before her nap.
Patricia, read my lips: NO. YOU. DON'T. In fact, you do not have the right to do anything at all without getting nasty looks. People have a right to give you nasty looks for any reason they want, including you being selfish enough to think that your desire to ******-feed your child puts you in some sancrosant position where you are above any and all criticism. Get over yourself.

Well my thing is i really don't care as long as the whole thing isn't showing. i've seen it where women didn't have blankets over but their shirt was down so all you see realy is a mother holding her baby and if you look for more than a few seconds you can tell it's eating but most (normal) ppl aren't gonna look for that long. I fed my youngest that way for the first 6 wks and i only fed him in public once but i had a blanket over that i had bought before he was born that came with a feeding pillow but for the most part i had pumped some into bottles for when i was out.

She may have had no choice, those stars sometimes do not have their voices heard. The papers and stuff just publish what they want to publish.
Over a decade after Latvia declared independence from the Soviet Union, Riga is a city on the up and up. In 2001, the city celebrated its 800th year and things have seldom looked so rosy for the cosmopolitan capital that was once revered across Europe as the ‘Paris of the North’. The promised land of both European Union and NATO membership beckons and, since 1991, the economy has been transformed beyond recognition. The city is now firmly on the tourist map. Riga is already the de facto Baltic business capital, leaving Estonia’s Tallinn and Lithuania’s Vilnius in its wake. Increasingly, for tourists, it is becoming the most rewarding city of the three, with visitor attractions spruced up and an ever-burgeoning proliferation of hotels at all levels. Riga, a city older than both Stockholm and St. Petersburg, is the only Baltic capital to have a real big-city buzz. Unfortunately it is increasingly suffering from all of the problems that face any large metropolis, with crime – including robbery and mugging of tourists – on the rise. Any lingering images of Communist deprivations, however, are quickly blasted away by a stroll around this city, with its gleaming renovated buildings, its fashion conscious mobile-phone carrying youth and the new bars and cafés that seem to be opening everywhere. On a sunny day, as the smart office workers vie for space in the city’s grand squares with students clad in all the latest designer gear, this could be anywhere in Europe.

It never worked for me (time-wise). I've always had to keep moving. B.r.e.a.s.t. feeding just wasn't for me. Give baby the bottle and let me go! (hahaha) I, like you collected milk from me for my younger son...that didn't last long. I abandoned the idea after about 5 or 6 weeks.
I think it is great...for baby to be b.r.e.a.s.t. fed. I do think also that if people didn't stare they wouldn't see much. Unfortunately, we live in a world where people DO indeed stare. So...mommies...cover up while baby chugs on the jug!

A year old is when the nutritionists say whole milk is ok.I do not like the idea of a baby being feed from mom at the age of 3 years. My sis in law did that. Her child is now 6 now, but good grief I thk IMO that is to long.
