You know that is a good question. Maybe it was the time. It was a simple time and simple things made people laugh. But remember, Betty did not start out as the sexy boom shell with humor. She was a dog with humor.
I'll look at some of my literture and get back.
Always Booping,
Betty

The original Betty Boop cartoons has lots of visual gags and comic songs. There was less repartee (spoken jokes) although Bimbo was sometimes quick with a wisecrack. For example, in "Any Rags"......
Betty: "I can't come to the door I'm in my nightie."
Bimbo: "That's all right, I'll wait 'till you take it off."
There's a description of the cartoons in the thread "Betty Boop cartoons" in the Chit Chat Lounge.
In her present incarnation Betty is a model and an icon, with lots of very pretty images on posters, clothing etc. She has moved from "Humour" to "Glamour."

I got that wrong. The dialogue is from "Bimbo's Express."

Hey Fellow Boopers!!
This past weekend I got to go to a movie festival here in my home town and one of the minis was a cartoon with BB. The title was "Ha Ha" and boy was it funny. It was BB with Ko Ko the clown with a toothe ache and BB trying to pull out the tooth but instead gets Ko Ko, herself and the town under the influence of "Laughing Gas". Tombstones, Cars and buildings were just laughing their buttoms off. The people behind me were referring to the Tombstones as "Casper, the Friendly Ghost". I went with my BB tank top on, to show my support and knownledge. If anyone has a community that has their own film festival, encourage them to show these classics. Its the best way to show the young the past and for everyone to enjoy some good HUMOR!!!

Bimbo's Express was a 1930 Talkartoon starring Bimbo. I'm not sure if Betty was called "Betty" at the time. She certainly wasn't "Betty Boop" yet.
Bimbo and his furniture moving team, including a hippo, help Betty move house.

That was "Ha Ha Ha." I don't have my notes with me, but I think it was late 1932.
Surprisingly, I've seen "Ha Ha Ha" on a "banned and censored" list along with "Be Human." I've no idea why. Did you spot any racist or unacceptable content Betty?

Sorry "racist or unacceptable" should read "racist or otherwise unacceptable."

No Betty Boop cartoons were made in the 1950s, but her old cartoons – or those deemed suitable for family viewing – were syndicated for television. Her image wasn't used widely as a marketing icon, so if you do come across Betty Boop merchandise from the 1950s it would be very rare and woth a lot of money.
I've never seen or heard of Betty Boop memorabilia from the 1950s - or indeed from the period between 1940 and 1985. Has anyone ever come across any?

I just purchased a clock from ebay and the lady told me the date with the trademark says 1980....I haven't received it yet so I will check it out when I do finally get it.
Here is a pic of it. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a3/bettyboopfan/th_9b_1_b.jpg (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a3/bettyboopfan/9b_1_b.jpg)

Hey, Fellow Boopers,
No, I didn't notice any "banned or censored" phrases during the caroon. But my friend did notice how tight BB dress was around the important parts. Sorry, but that is what was said. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching the cartoon, especially when Betty came out of the ink well fallowed by Ko Ko the Clown.
Always Booping,

I don't think Betty Boop wearing tight clothes round her "important parts" would result in an inclusion in a banned and censored list - otherwise all of her pre-Hays output would be on it!
Inclusion in such a list usually implies either excessive cruelty (Be Human) or racial stereotyping (Making Stars). I find the inclusion of Ha Ha Ha in such a list inexplicable.

Hey, Betty, how could you possibly have upset anyone?!!
Your post was very informative and useful. Like you, I couldn't see any reason why Ha Ha Ha should have been banned or censored. I was wondering if you had spotted anything I missed.
I'm truly sorry if my post gave the impression I was upset in any way. That was certainly not my intention.
