View Full Version : Dizzy Little Flapper

Betty has been the subject of a number of academic papers discussing morality, ethics and censorship in the mid 1930s. Regretfully, there are echos today.
Not all of the papers have been by men. Almost unanimously, they ask why this "helpless, dizzy little flapper" was so damaged by the Hays Act.
OK, steamroller to crush a butterfly, but was BB really dumb or helpless? Was Hays financed by entepreneurs like Disney to crush opposition like the Fleishers? Was sparky, independent Boop targeted not because she was an attractive woman, and totally unashamed of it, but because she was self-reliant, independant, capable, and yes, pretty **** bright. Did she fail to conform to the stereotype?
Opinions?

Did she fail to conform to the stereotype?
I have her on T-shirts that read: "Born Rebel"!!
The Neckless beauty has a reputation...for rebelling!

I have to agree with Neckless that our Ms. Betty Boop is definitely a rebel in some cases but not all... I have seen her in long gowns looking like a southern belle and if you've seen her "I Don't Do Mornings" image, she is definitely frumpled in her bathrobe with rollers in her hair!! So I think she can be all things to all people but there are always going to be people "out to get her who will always complain about her" because of her mostly sassy and sexy image.

yes, i would definately say she was a rebel! i have a couple of tops with her relating to attitude ('if you don't like my attitude...stop talking to me!!!!' and 'i don't like your attitude!' i think BB is able to pull any style off and so can also pull off rebelling!

Betty Boop is probably being most rebellious on her motorcycle..... at least that's how I feel.
