View Full Version : 1936 pin ?
Good day,
I have a Betty Boop pin that I have been trying to find out about.
The pin has a small square piece hanging from her right hand that has
" 1936 Texas Centennial" on it. There is nothing on the back of the pin.
I got this from my grandparents when they died. I know the 1936 Texas Centennial was held at Fair park in Dallas.
if anyone has any info on this, let me know what this piece might be worth.
Thanks,
Don

Dear Don,
It might be more helpfull if you could post a pic of it or find a pic of it on the web, that part might be harder though. Does it have any reference to King Features on it at all?? It could be an only one you never know that it could be, and if so that would be grand!! Goodluck and Goodday!!:)

Dear Don,
This pin was indeed made for the 1936 Centennial. The basic BOOP pin was used for several different functions. It started as a silver pin with a scottie dog attached to a chain. It then was enameled and used for the Texas Centennial, for Hawaii, Atlantic City, and for the 1939 World's Fair, each with a different charm attached. Here's a description from my book:
1930s Betty Boop Enameled Pin. Same design as the engraved silver pin, this 1˝-inch pin was made in painted enamel versions and used for several other purposes. The pins were made with Betty’s hair, eyes and shoes painted black, her lips red. The dress was painted in either black, red, green or blue enamel. All pins have a small hole in the right hand (to attach a charm) and a swing-pin attached to the back with a cup-shaped latch. No date or markings, manufacturer unknown. Uncommon.
1936 Betty Boop Texas Centennial Pin. Basic pin described above, with a commemorative charm attached to Betty's right hand. Charm is ⅜-inch square with beveled corners and has a flag enclosed in a five-pointed star at the center, 19 to the left 36 to the right, TEXAS at the top and CENTENNIAL at the bottom. Charm is silver with red enamel. Rare.
I have seen these pins go from $50 to $150, the average price around $80.

Thanks Boopman,
You described just what I have except that the charm is blue. Her dress is red.
Thanks for your quick response !

Here's a picture of the 1936 Texas Pin.
I'll also put the PanAm, Hawaii, and World's Fair pins up, too.
