:confused: Did betty have a cat I know the dogs pudgy and bimbo but saw her with a cat and wanted to know it's name.

Betty's cat appears on the cover of "Betty Boop's Sunday Best" comic collection. I don't know its name.

OK - more info.

Betty's cat first appears in Barnacle Bill, Betty's second cartoon (not counting her bit parts as a dog). It spreaks English and sings, "Says Barnacle Bill the sailor."

I still don't know its name.

A couple of points of interest. The other local cats don't speak English, only Betty's. One of these is (or appears to be) a caricature of Mae West, which must have annoyed that lady mightily. The Fleichers really were a mischevious bunch.

Secondly, those who argue Betty's basic innocence (like me) prefer to ignore Barnacle Bill. Nothing ouvert, or likely to upset the children, but nevertheless Betty does seem to be the first port of call for visiting sailors, and sea captains.

Still, every nice girl loves a sailor (or two). Take Olive Oyl for example....

:) Well Fellow Boopers;
As for BB having a cat, maybe as a pet. Bimbo was or is BB boyfriend when she started as a dog. Every nice girl has a pet and that is Pudgy, who chases cats when they come into the picture. I know my dogs use to chase the neighborhood cats, maybe BB cats do , too.

Betty agrees with you Betteeboop! She hired a cat in "Pudgy the Watchman," because Pudgy wasn't making a good job of tossing out the mice. He was called Al E. Kat and was one mean feline. This was years before Tom and Jerry - so Betty Boop pioneered cat and mouse cartoons, as well as just about everything else.

1938 - just about the time when Fleischer Studios moved to Florida. I don't think this cartoon is totally lost, but it is difficult to get hold of.

Pudgy isn’t doing his job, which is to get rid of the mice, so Betty hires Al E. Katz. Tom and Jerry were not to appear until 1940, although MGM were already gathering a team of animators directed by the strange and humourless Fred Quimby. This cartoon is therefore a forerunner, although Tom is a lot more sympathetic than the mean Al E.

In a typically surreal Fleischer sequence the cat shellacs the tails of the mice, and throws them like darts at a beach umbrella. However, Al E isn’t the world’s most reliable worker. He finds a cask of cider and gets drunk. The mice then lead the inebriated cat in a merry chase through Betty’s living quarters, much to her annoyance. Pudgy throws the disgraced cat out of the window.

It's a very funny cartoon, although Betty has only a minor part.
