Do you think Betty Boop cartoons should be digitized and cleaned up (not edited!) for distribution on DVDs?
I'm not talking about the low quality BB cartoons that are currently out on DVDs.

i think thats a great idea!!!!

They most definitely SHOULD do a new OFFICIAL Betty Boop animated shorts collection!
They, the rights holders, however, should remaster the cartoons and NOT repeat the Definitive Collection because the Definitive Collection used a cheapo digital device that removed character inklines intermittently through the bulk of the cartoons on that set. Basically, the restoration equipment used for that set could NOT tell the difference between scratches and inklines in some of the cartoons! Some extra ought to be spent remastering and bringing back Betty Boop up to the quality levels that Time-Warner is doing on the Popeye shorts.
People that buy this set or any cartoon will not put up with half-assed restorations and frankly the major studios have the money to spend doing a VERY good job restoring old films. People expect much better quality from DVD than what they saw on both VHS and laserdisc and frankly with all the money being made off home video (and DVD in particular) there is no excuse NOT to do these sets well.
I would also like to see the cartoons released in CHRONOLOGICAL release order because the Betty Boop Definite Collection skipped around in time organizing cartoons by theme and it was harder to get any sense of how Betty Boop developed over time.
I'm sorry to cause some concern by my multiple posting on this subject the other day (and I only use one screen name, BTW, I'm not an MPD!) but I saw a lack of posts on the animated series and it concerned that a site about Betty Boop had a lack of forum messages about the animated cartoons that made the character a legend in the first place.
I am not against licensed goods featuring the character's image, but goodness' sake the classic Betty Boop animated shorts ought to be available in officially licensed and restored DVDs, too!

I have been waiting for just such a thing George C - i agree 100% with what you have said. All of my collection are stills, collectables, figurines and the like, but i have very few of the cartoons. I love them but would like so see them preserved and restored to their full potential and glory.
I'll put my order in now for a set.

I was looking in the bargain bin ( $ 5.99 ) at Best Buy and saw a Betty Boop double DVD set. 23 Betty Boop cartoons. I tried to find others on the internet and there were several. I saw them at the Barnes and Noble website.

Not sure how though, he is just a computer nerd and stero nerd as well and tries to find the best ways to hadles someting like that.

bettyboopfan
10-23-2004, 02:13 AM
I believe he said it is a VHS/DVD player and recorder.
He said they were rather expensive right now because it is something new.
I will have to check again with him and find out because I think it would come in really handy.

Gerald, how many toons are on your two LDs? I have two Republic BB LDs, and I have Betty Boop: The Definitive Collection on VHS, an 8 tape set. I believe it has 115 toons, totalling almost 800 minutes. That wouldn't fit on two LDs. Besides, I heard that BB:TDC was originally intended as a LD set, but was never released on LD. I am just about finished transferring all my tapes to DVD. I am putting them in chronological order, by release date. I plan on watching them ALL, in order, when I am done. Probably do it over the holidays, when I have some time off.
